first time getting your bike

Quick question:

How did your parents feel when you guys were getting your very first bike? I've been trying to talk my mother into letting me buy one but she would go ape shit on me every time

fd3 04-14-2012 06:16 PM

HAHAHA just went through this.
If it isnt ur parents its the wifey.
Took a long time of bribing and sweet talking
But it went through

tool001 04-14-2012 06:32 PM

didnt tell anybody, bought it and let the see it after.

whitev70r 04-14-2012 06:34 PM

If you don't have your mom's support/approval to get a bike, wait till you move out to buy one.

OTG-ZR2 04-14-2012 07:25 PM

Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

corollagtSr5 04-14-2012 08:00 PM

Yea just buy it, unless your trying to get them to buy it lol.

noraath 04-14-2012 08:18 PM

I did what anyone in their right mind would do.. Buy it on the side, and let them find out.

elwell 04-14-2012 08:50 PM

Thats when im planning to do, i think imma head to northshore and grab myself a gsxr 600 =D

busdriverman 04-14-2012 09:18 PM

parents werent happy about it but i saved up enough and bought it on my own.

they knew that even if they disapproved, they couldnt stop me from buying one so in the end my mom just told me to be very careful

I just brought the thing home one day lol, they just came to terms with it.
They were pretty accepting after the fact that I responsible enough to go through a proper riding school

corollagtSr5 04-15-2012 12:38 AM

Your going to buy brand new? North shore suzuki? Your going to get super sad if your learning on it and you drop it. My first bike was a 2006 gsxr 600 in 2009. If your serious, most people take lessons to see if they even like riding. Some people end up buying all this fancy gear and a bike to find out their to scared to learn how to ride. Then end up losing a lot of money.

How old are you?

When i got the bike, i told my parents that it wasn't mine. I felt bad for lying, but in the end they will find out. What i should have done was just bought the bike and told them. Like the others said, just buy it because that is what YOU want. Your parents will eventually accept it. It also helps if you prove to them that you're a mature person taking the necessary precautions to prevent injuries (getting proper gear, schooling).

Or if they're Asian parents, say that it was too crazy of a deal to pass up. hahaha jk.

Good luck.

Recon604 04-15-2012 01:35 PM

how old were you all when you started riding?

stereo12 04-15-2012 01:59 PM

i bought my bike, had it in garage, told parents it belonged to my friend who needed to store it.

week later, when they saw me riding it, i said i was just fooling around.

crashed it a few months later, told parents i tripped and hurt my knee.

few months later, got a new bike, said i bought it

just ease it on to them. dont ask for permission. just do it "nike"

MaGNuM16 04-15-2012 03:13 PM

my parents hate the idea of bikes , but now im on my 4th bike and they've got use to it haha. but ya my first bike i bought it and just brought it home, dad called me dumb but they got over it.

quasi 04-15-2012 06:21 PM

Told my dad I was going to take lessons and buy a bike, he was super supportive. It didn't hurt that my dad had multiple bikes had ridden since before I was born and my mom rode and has had bikes as well.

12 y.o. Started on a 250 for circuit. Never looked back. Still do circuit whenever I can.

Edit: This was with my uncle. As such, my parents never knew til I bought my own bike at 16

My parents know I'm responsible and never really cared I got a bike, but they link me every news story about a bike incident ever since I got my bike!

My mom didn't really approve, and my dad didn't really mind cause he used to ride (no license though). But one day I just came home with the Learners, bought a cheap beater bike and took lessons at PRS. On to my second bike now, although they do worry everytime I'm on it.

My friend owns a pair of dirt bikes and we take it to go off road in the field on the island. I can ride and I'm pretty sure I won't be scared to learn more

I just bought one. They got over it and eventually liked it. It didn't help that I've worked at motorcycle dealerships for the last 6 years. So they knew it was inevitable.
