You can dispute it and just talk to the officer before you go into court and make a deal with him. You can ask him if he can reduce it to a regular speeding ticket. It's up to him whether he will or not.

Or, you can plead guilty and tell the judge you can't pay for it and ask if he's willing to reduce it and cite your reasons and hopefully you have a clean record other than this ticket.

If you are lucky, the officer may also not show up.

The only way to get it reduced it is by disputing and negotiate with the officer prior to going in the courtroom.

If officer isn't willing to do that then your only choice is toask for an extention or some sort so you have more time to come up with the money.

If you dispute it, your court date will be a year from now... by that time you should have been able to save up to pay for it. Start eating mcdonalds...

i disputed my tix, then pleaded guilty before court date (cause i didnt have time to attend court) , after they sent me letter with reduced fine automatically. 40% reduction

Thanks for everyones response. My last question is, since this is automatically 6 points towards my drivers license, will I have to shell out another $300 to ICBC for the drivers penalty points?

yup. for me it was $300/3 years. also had my license suspended for 3 months since I had my N and had to pay $200 for a new one. if you dont have your class 5 dispute it no matter what.

Wow so all together you must've paid close to $1800 in fees. Did you tried to dispute it?

Szeto 04-20-2012 12:08 AM

not only do you pay DRP $300 for 3 years but you also need to pay for the ticket itself plus fees associated with getting impounded.

Yep, excessive speeding tickets are a real wallet killer, I'm having my court date next month hopefully the officer and I could work out some sort of a deal, if not then most likely you would receive a discount on the ticketed amount, my friend had a $480 ticket and it was reduced to roughly $350.

zulutango 04-20-2012 04:42 AM

$483 reduced to $368. Dropped the speed he was doing from + 60 over the limit to...41 -60 over the limit. Your friend got a break.
