2008 + Ninja 250's , anyone got one?

I am really thinking about purchasing one of these bikes. I had an older R6 a while back but as a student I really couldn't justify paying what I did for insurance especially on a bike. I saw a red 09 250 in person and I have to admit it looks pretty good and it didn't sound that dinky.

Just wondering how people who have owned them think of them and what do you guys normally budget for insurance ( depending on whats covered and how long the insurance last )

Also do you guys normally put premium or just stick with 87 on this bike? Any issues at all with them?

If you were on an R6 and had no problems with it other than costs, then you will be bored out of your mind on a 250. Something else to think about. Just my .02

Thanks, but speed doesn't really matter to me. Im using it more for commuting purposes as my car is not really a gas saver and insurance is not particularaly cheap on it as well. Can anyone chime in with useful Ninja 250 info? Particularly people who own one?

my gf had a quote of 40-50 bucks/month . she has 15% discount. basic + 2million liability. going to see if she can do private for comprehensive.

if you just want something commuting/gas saver, than i don't see anything wrong with it. Makes me wonder why you got an r6 in the first place

I used to own one for a couple of months.

Fuel economy wise, it gets about 300km a tank.

When riding around the city, expect to flip around the gears alot.

The bike only tops out at 160km/h if you're riding on the highway.

And expect comments from your friends that it sounds like a Subaru lol.

This is the one I had before I sold it.

Good call. I was just going to mention the possibility of getting your comprehensive and collission through a private insurer like Beacon and of course your basic through ICBC.

one good thing about these ninja is it never depreciate, go buy a 08/09 model around $3500 and you would probably still able to sell it around 3K in 2 years

My first bike was a '08 Ninja 250, which I have now passed onto my wife. Good little bike, fun to ride, great on gas (I used 87 except winter storage when I would fill up on 91). Insurance is cheap especially if you buy through private insurance. I think it is about $600/year for my wife with ICBC basic (2 or 3 mill liability) + Beacon comprehensive.

Only complaints I have is it's carbureted and no ABS. For those two reasons, I would also look into the Honda CBR250.

Here is a picture of my very happy wife when she passed her road test last year

I've seen kits that let you convert the carbs to fuel injected like the other markets that sell the ninja as FI

Nice! Thanks for that info I was really curios to see what it would cost to insure for the year. I had an older R6 with some quirks here and there that I got for really cheap (probably why it had the quirks) and it cost be $240 for 3 months with basic insurance.

I still have my Ninja 250. PERFECT learned bike. Great resale value if you buy it used. As mentioned, excellent fuel economy and dirt cheap insurance.

For its class, I feel it's the best bike out there. Often people think I have a 600 but I have to correct them and let them know it's only a 250. I'm itching for an upgrade now but like I said, it will be easy to sell as lots of people are in the market for this bike to begin with.

Stay away from the lime green, I believe that color has the hardest time selling.

lol it's an acquired taste. I guess my point is, if you're buying the bike a temp. bike to learn and get comfortable; then get a color that is common and not something that only a select few people will like. Black, red, white to name a few can be sold fairly easily.

I am looking to get one of those Ninjets this winter, as a second bike.

Just a bike to have fun on.

But they do hold their resale value, which is good when you sell it.

BUT sucks when you are looking for a used one

I'm thinking of getting a bike just for fun and I'm seeing a lot of Ninja 250's around. Would it be a good beginner's bike?

I'm turning 18 in a week.

It is one of the best, if you want a sportbike it is the one to get.

There are also Honda CBR125 & CBR250

If you want a cruiser bike go for the V-Star 250 also known as a Virago 250

from my own research i see that now that the season has started its pretty hard to find a 250 and if you do then $5000 and under, and mileage wont be anything to high because most people ride a 250 for one season then get rid of it

Mine was a 2009 model with 7000km, picked it up for 4 grand and came with the following...

- OEM Solo seat cowl
- Zartan's Exhaust hanger
- Shogun swingarm spools
- Woodcraft clip-ons with Pro-Grip grips
- Pazzo adjustable brake & clutch levers (black w/ green adjustment knobs)
- Targa fender eliminator kit
- Pirelli Sport Demon tires in stock size

Unfortunately I sold it though
