Toronto car rental

does anyone know if the quoted rate on the sites include insurance??

most of the rental places have 'collion damage waiver' option which runs about 30bux/day (which is kind of steep)...is this option necessary??

A few years back I rented a car in vancouver but if i remember correctly the guys at the rental place told us to buy insurance elsewhere for cheaper rates. Is this the case in Toronto as well?

how long do you plan on renting a car for?
maybe consider using zipcar?
I think they're rates are quite reasonable and everything is included

as for insurance I can't tell you too much cause it varies significantly in Toronto ... but from experience the insurance cost is MUCH steeper here than in Vancouver

You can get rental car insurance here from ICBC, which covers you throughout Canada and the US. I believe it's $10 per day.

It is best for you to check the fine print.. to see what are the actual amount the insurance will cover you.. it varies with different cards / rental agencies etc. Don't just go for the cheapest one.

Honestly on the scheme of things it is not the collision insurance you have to worry about.. it is the liability insurance.

Toronto has no fault insurance, so comparing with Vancouver is like comparing apples and oranges.

Usually if you have a credit card w/ car insurance its sufficient. Mention that and they'll waive the CDW for you. They'll always try to upsell you some type of CDW for 10-30 bucks a day.

I read about insurance on credit card but mine doesn't cover it unfortunately. If i remember correctly I purchase 1 day insurance policy with the rental comapny and went elsewhere to get the $10/day with ICBC for the remaining days. Will this be possible in Toronto as well? otherwise i guess i'll just have to suck it up...sigh insurance is gonna cost just as much as the car itself :S

I'll be renting a car for 2 weeks or more so zip car won't do. I'll probably pick the car at the airport so i just want to sort out the insurance issue before i head over.

Some of the websites say that the collision damage waiver is different from insurance itself...a little confusing. besides if i can get insurance elsewhere i suppose the Collion damage option is redundant.

thanks anyways!

You can get the ICBC insurance before you head to Toronto so you don't need to pay anything to the rental car company.
