Looks like something the Ghost of the Hamburgler would dwell in.

where is it sitting now? Is it some desserted shelter for homeless people?

SumAznGuy 06-23-2012 12:49 PM

It is sitting just behind the Shell gas station near Hastings and Sperling IIRC.

It's just north-east of Confederation Park. It's currently abandoned and just sitting in the waters. Read there were plans to move it and redevelop it into a restaurant though.

Here's a photo album page of the inside of the McBarge. It's been languishing there for 20+ years.

They should redevelop it into something..I'd definitely give it a visit.

Santofu 06-24-2012 09:41 PM

Does anybody knows the reason why is it abandoned?

Senna4ever 06-24-2012 10:50 PM

Expo 86 was so fun! The arcades were insane!

no place to put it, no real reason to keep it
nobody wanted to buy it.

I read in the paper though that some developer is looking to buy it + relocated to Maple Ridge or port Moody (one of the two) as a high tier restaurant or some crap.

SumAznGuy 06-24-2012 10:57 PM

There was talk of using it as part of a waterfront condo project, I think in Mission.
I believe that was turned down by City hall or something like that.
