2004 Mercedes C230 transmission repair info

Hi all,

My co-worker has a 2004ish C230 sedan. The car wasn't shifting gears, and he brought it to the dealer to take a look.
They've told him the transmission, torque converter, radiator, and some other stuff needs to be replaced, with the bill for parts at $9,000, and labor between $2-3K.
Considering C230 sedans on autotrader are going for 16K, he's not sure what to do. He's going to call independent shops on Monday, but we were wondering if anyone out here knew how much parts/labor for such a job would probably cost?

Cheers!

i dont' see why the radiator has to be replaced, maybe the tranny cooler. it'd be a stupid design if it was all in one.

but i would have guessed 5000-6000. that's what my friends 328ci's repair bill was estimated to be

You can buy an entire motor/tranny and have it installed for less than 5Gs..... have a look on MBworld for parts...and ship it here via Greyhound.

Your buddy probably has the coolant leak into trans...which locks it up... the w203/w209 are famous for this - cause --> the valeo radiator.

Im not kidding either.

My gf w209 gearbox won't shift out of 2nd gear. End up TCU having problem low oil pressure.

Try to pull some codes out from ECU might point you in better direction.
