Free: German Shepherd to a great home

It's with a heavy heart that I'm considering giving up my 5 year old female gsd.
I'll be taking a job out of the country and maybe moving around a lot after a 6 month period so my living situation is very uncertain. If I don't find a perfect home, I'll bring her along side, but would rather spare her the stress of flights, tropical temperatures and uncertainty.

She's a 5 year old, 65 lb, long haired gsd. She's barked three times since I've adopted her 3 years ago, and that was only because male dogs were trying to mount her.

She's shy and timid but extremely loyal and loving. She loves to the company of other dogs as she was raised in a german shepherd breeding facility. She's lived in my apartment all this time with no complaints and is often found napping in my bedroom. Her exercise requirement is very minimal. When I worked long hours 10+ she would obediently wait for me without any accidents until I got home to let her out.

Looking for an adult with a stable job, home and preferably other dogs so she can transition into a home easier.

PM me.

This has me all fucking distraught. If I can't find her a suitable home, hopefully a family or something, then hopefully she'll be happy travelling around with me. It's not the life I would prefer for her and I hate the fact that I can't provide the ideal setting for her.

You will be able to find someone who can take care of her. German shepards are so smart and amazing so you will have your pick of people. What is your timeline? I wish I could take her but I just adopted a shepard/pitbull on friday, and our place is much too small for another one.

the way you say that skinny, is it makes it seem like he should find something else because of the dog ? Man i love my dog..but in order to provide for it we need to make $$ so the job may be a bit more of a priority..

but at op ..just take the dog with you dude, i think a dog would understand more that you had to take it to a random environment then to leave it to someone else or else you would never see her again

If an owner believes that their dog would be better placed with another master, with the welfare of the dog in mind, this is not the thread for us to debate if its right or not. Lets not make this more difficult for them than it needs to be. They are not selling it or abandoning it. Its a conscious effort to find a better life than they believe they can provide. He even said that if he can't find an appropriate home that she would be coming along.

Of course I say it that way. He took the responsibility of owning the dog. It's a real commitment with a real life. It's not like buying a car or an expensive TV. It is an animal that will give you 100% of its full loyalty every day it is alive, and it is part of your family.

I said this in the other thread, what if he had a baby as a single father, and then got a job where he had to travel a lot. Would he put the baby up for adoption on the internet?

Obviously not. If someone is choosing a job over a baby, that means they want mo' money, so they would sell the baby rather than give it away.

True, you can probably sell your unwanted baby. Unwanted dogs on the other hand, you won't get anything back in return

Depending on where your going, it might be better finding a family here or putting the dog up for adoption. I have had family members bring their dogs over seas, and it wasn't easy for the dog, adjusting to the climate. I understand that dogs should always be with their master, but were talking about the dogs life here...

Hope you find someone! Goodluck!

I will talk with my parents. They have a German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, and we have a Beagle. I treat my dogs better than I treat most humans (haha)
Sad to hear that, I couldn't imagine...

In general I hate dogs, but, I would have a hard time between my cat of 11 years and a job somewhere. for dogs, it's ever worse, they form that bond and such, so I would agree with Skinny, do you have to take the job? I would just take her with you, make accommodations, otherwise you may end up regretting it. I guess it depends on how you look at your pets, accessories, or part of your family.

I'm taking the bugger with me.

Hope y'all didn't assume I was thinking of giving her up without consideration. I was offered this gig a year ago, and have been wrestling with the idea ever since.

Thanks for the thoughts, very much appreciated.

I'll post up a picture in our new home when I land. Hope she doesn't mind the weather =(

Crisis averted! Now you have to make sure that wherever you move to has a lot of space for her to run around. Remember she is your partner for life wherever you go and whatever you do will have to be for the both of you, not just you.

Hey, little update here. I landed on Tuesday and Seven's supposed to land the day after, unfortunately there was a hiccup with the import permit. All in all it worked out as I just got back from a mini trip and landed the same day as her. She's doing well, no mess in the crate or anything for the 13 hour flight. Although when she got to my room she had explosive diarrhea lol. All's well now and she had a good sleep. Snapshot_20120728_2.JPG

Thanks for the positivity.
