| Car Salesman idea sharing/resource *Thread*
I know there is already a "any car salesman" thread here but it is so dead that i thought I would make a new thread where the sole purpose is to share resources and tips for gaining our license and what we should aware of (deadlines) etc. This can be seen as a "resource/advice" thread
We can also list our experiences from applying online, paying for fees, to actually going for the exam etc
This thread may help answer questions that we may all have and by contributing, we can all help each other out I would also like to meet some of you "future" or current car salesman in person so we can have an advice/tips sharing session so i'll start off with 2 questions: 1. Who here is planning to become a car salesman in the near 6 months-1 year?
for me, I am planning to apply in January of 2013 2. Some people have told me that you can apply at a dealership first and then once they hire you, you then go apply for the VSA license? (so you can be guranteed a position and not have to waste time looking for a dealership right after you get your license) lets fire away guys !!!

2. Yes. But there is a better chance of getting hired if you already have a licence.
On a side note, the vsa course was the biggest waste of time and money thus far in my life.

I don't work sales any more. Didn't do it for too long, maybe just over a year, with jp auto group. Where are you thinking of applying?

I plan on becoming a car sales because i am a manager at a current retail store and have a very broad customer base that may become my future customer base if i were to get into the business.
People keep questioning me on why i keep on wanting to become a car sales. I want to do it because its in my interest and i can throw all the hobby/free time/weekend bullshit aside because i am always anyways
Being a good sales person is in my genes so maybe this job is really meant for me

In all seriousness, I work in sales. It's very stressful, and out of every 10 new hires, 5 quit. A lot of people cannot handle rejection and rude customers. I deal with whiny/bitchy people all the time at my place of work. I got a quick wit and a decent sense of humour though so if I can't diffuse the situation, I just act like a dick right back; at least I get a laugh out of it.

I've been in general sales for 12.5 years and i think i have seen all sorts of customers out there so i definately have no problems dealing with them

You should be able to get a car salesman job anywhere especially if you have previous sales experience.
Don't take the VSA course too seriously like Jgresch said, its the biggest waste of time and money. I think some people spend a lot of time doing the test and going over it 2-3 times.
Just go apply somewhere and if you get hired, you can start right away without the license. You will get a temporary license that is 60 days or whatever it is and if you don't like the job, you can leave without going to the course and wasting your $400.

(from what time u have to be at the dealership to getting off for work)
Since its like being self employed, can you go on a lunch break whenever you want?

I don't work at a dealership anymore.
I was working 9-3 and 3-9 and it rotates everyday.
If I work Friday, I get sat/sun off. If I get Friday off, I work sat/sun and obviously all the extra time I spend going into work from appointments.
I worked 9-9 before. I even stayed from 9-11pm a couple times....2 hours after we closed.
Lunch breaks are pretty much whenever you want. Just let the other sales guys know. I always went out to eat.
