Case in point: I managed to sell my 2014 CBR 125R (pictured in my profile) with just over 5,000km last year for $2800.

Reiterating the message of being alert at all times and scanning everything including mirrors, especially after you've come to a stop. I drove by this horrific looking scene of a Harley partly pinned under a van last week.



My heart dropped. The driver of the van made no attempt to slow down, likely on his cell phone, as he plowed over the motorcycle. The motorcyclist, I later learned, was alert to the oncoming danger behind him and jumped off his bike, escaping injuries. The driver of the van was sent to hospital with minor injuries.

Anyone got a recommendation for a shop to mount the tires? I was going to go to essential motorcycle services, but they seem to be not open yet

Braking Question: When you guys are starting to brake, whether its a fast emergency brake or just slowing down to a red light, are you more prone to use front brake first or rear brake?

I was talking to a few riders yesterday, and most of them answered that they always hit the rear brake first while slowing down to a red light and obviously emergency stops they use both. But the first brake they use is the rear, while I always use my front brakes first no matter what, rarely do I even use my rear brake unless its an emergency situation.

Just curious how others ride here.

If I'm in traffic, I'll just engine brake until the stop line/light, but primarily just use my front.
If I'm needing to stop in a hurry I try to integrate engine braking in with front and rear. Going into corners, I try not to load up the front suspension too much with the front brake unless I'm trailbraking, otherwise I'd compensate with the rear in that situation.

Really depends on what kind of bike you're riding too, the brake bias is going to be different for different types. Sportbikes, for example, are heavy on the front brake, while Adventure bikes/cruisers would be heavier in the rear.

Wondering what would be considered high mileage on a bike. I know cars go up to 200k plus with regular maintainance before more expensive rebuilds and stuff may be required.

On bikes whats the average kms a year? Is approx 3000 a year reasonable?

I'd get them installed where I bought them, I'd feel like a Dbag bringing in tires from somewhere else to get them installed by another shop who also sells tires. I should temper that with I don't really mind what others do that's just me and buying shit, to each his own. I'm also about convenience, I'm not about to try and get tires moved from A to B to save a couple bucks, I just want to drop my bike off and pick it up a few hours later with new rubber.

I bought mine online at Canadian Motorcycles and had them installed at Imperial Motorcycles. Great guys and friendly environment.

They tried asking me what I paid for my tires but then realized they couldn't do the price I got mine for. No harm no foul, nice guys all around.

I wanted to do the same, but another member a few posts back suggested to not get them installed at modern not because of the costs but im guessing because of all the stories

I don't think anyone's compiled a list yet but Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and KTM announced their days. I'm already on the list to test ride:

-CBR500R
-CTX700n (might change this but I wanted to give cruiser styles a second chance)

3,000km a year is reasonable. I would be hesitant to buy a bike that has less than 1,000km a year on it, who knows if the owners have been keeping up with maintenance?

1st Gear Riding School has CBR 125Rs with 80,000km on them and they still run great. Bigger engines which are less stressed can likely get to 200,000km easy with proper maintenance.

I've put over 10K KM's on my grom since Feb 2014. Bikes are meant to be ridden not stored..

Bit the bullet! First bike, barely rode it so far but loving it. Seating position is just what I wanted, with a frame bigger than the 300's.

Very nice! I saw one a few weeks ago, I though it was a 650 until I saw 400 on it. Seems like a good option for bigger folks, and the seat seems comfy enough for longer rides.

I literally missed this accident by 1-2 minutes. Luckily the firehall was down the street, and response was pretty quick, but not so lucky for the rider.. I'm not sure what he was riding, but just sucks to see someone so young riding pass away..

All you new riders out there, please take it easy on your bikes. The season just started and even if you've been out there for a while refreshing your skills and techniques are important.

Keep it safe, and remember Valentino Rossi started racing 125cc's before even getting in the big leagues. So even the pro's build up their skills before getting big bikes.

Very sad. R.I.P. young rider.

From what the article describes (driver turning left & collision mid intersection), it would appear the driver was likely at fault.

apparently that accident was caused by the rider blowing through the red light. Left turners had advanced left turn light.

big road side memorial at the intersection, drove by earlier.
