Sept 2, End of summer Mt. Baker Ride

Hey guys...never been to the US on the bike, so I wanna go there before the summer ends for good. Thinking of riding to the top of Mt. Baker.

Here's the plan: meet at Brentwood Mall parking lot 8:45 AM Sunday Sept 2. Brentwood Mall, Lougheed Highway, Burnaby, BC - Google Maps Leave at 9 AM.

We will take Hwy 1 to the Sumas border crossing, then have lunch at Chair 9, which is on the way to Baker. Chair 9 Woodstone Pizza & Bar Can do this on the back from Mt Baker too, up to you guys. Probably have to cuz they don't open until noon.

Ride as far up as we can go, chill, relax, and then head home. We should get back well before evening.

This is a US ride so of course bring your passports.

Anyone who has gps mounted on their bikes, bring it. We shouldn't get lost, but you never know.

Hopefully the weather will hold up...

Edit: Will stop at Bob's Burgers in Sumas, WA at 10 AM to meet up with other riders.

That may be true but having looked at Google Maps of the border crossing, I see an opportunity for a shortcut. Just sayin'.

Just did this ride this morning, traffic at 9am was already 30mins. There is a shortcut. Remember the last few miles to the top, take it easy and follow the suggested speeds, some corners with large rocks in the middle of the road and a few very tight hairpins. Guy I've ridden with has being doing it for 20 years and he still gets nervous on some of those corners.

Riding to Richmond is uncomfortable enough as it is.

A 500cc single cylinder thumper with an aggressive cafe stance is NOT fun. Ask CharlieH.

Were you in the ride with us? I was in the white duc...Were you in the Zx14?

Head ups to everyone, road to Mt. Baker is paved so its really nice. Be careful on the hairpins as some of them have bumps before the turn, and also the sharpness of the turn can be intimidating to some people. I had to lean the bike over a lot more than expected...so get your body positioning right!

That you Ray? It's Marco, I was on the other 250. My buddy Claude was on the ZX14, he was our tour guide for this ride. Him and the other two ended up doing another 250kms and crossed back into BC around 4pm.

Kinda, me and Jess share a common cousin, Vicky and Eddy. Originally that ride was changed to North Cascade pass on friday night, but after reading the ride report that there were lots of cops on that highway, it was changed back to Mt Baker. A friend of mine on a Ninja 250 went on another group ride to winthrop and ended up getting a speeding ticket.

The ride me and rk604 went was fairly newb friendly, being me and Jess were on 250's while the group leader was on a ZX14.

Yeah sure...just ride your own ride. Ride within your limits and don't be tempted to keep up with a faster rider. They're usually faster because they have more experience.

Pace will be moderate; nothing too extreme.

I might come on this dependent on weather and better if the ride started earlier to beat the border lineups. Normally everyone meets at the Chevron/Bobs Burger & Brew in Sumas
and start there or have breakfast if there is enough time.
