Your favourite wine/suggestions?

I find myself enjoying a bottle of wine a lot more than beer and hard liquor these days.

I would consider myself a wine noob as of now, looking to try other great red or white wine out there that I don't know of yet.

It's a great hobby lol
but seriously, wine is down to very personal preference. Some wines that I think are awesome, might not jive as well for others.
Then there's wine pairings which is a whole another world. Like you'll find more bold wines will taste better when eating red meat like steak but if you drink it on it's own it won't be as smooth.

Here are a couple to get you kickstarted though, they are some of my faves from my personal collection:

Red
J. Lohr Seven Oaks - Cab Sauv
Jean Bousquet - Malbec
Whites
Mission Hill Reserve - Sauv Blanc
Dr. Loosen - Reisling

They are all roughly in the $20 ballpark so shouldn't break the bank either.

Another good reisling that's familiar to Dr. Loosen is Notorious Rooster. A little sweeter but also cheaper.

I liked Apothic red from California. Barefoot Pinot Grigio is a nice white.

Just came back from Osoyoos.

If you want to try some cool wines check out Silver Sage's "The Flame"

I think it was a Gewurtztraminer with a chili pepper in it. Sweet wine with a hot kick. I wish that we bought more. The owner of the winery recommended not to cellar it, because it gets hotter over time.

I definitely recommend going to Osoyoos on a wine trip. I learned so much about the different types of grapes and such. Most wineries charge about $2 or $3 to try several if not all of their wines, which is refundable with the purchase of a wine.

I enjoy my reds more than whites, but I'm really really picky when it comes to finding a red that I enjoy. Burrowing Owl had some good reds.

Also, good years of reds can go up in value over time. Whites stay the same so don't really matter, you can drink them without cellaring.

Here's some Osoyoos wineries that I enjoyed if you are interested (In no particular order): Rustico, Burrowing Owl, Tinhorn Creek, Silver Sage, Cassini, Oliver Twist, Platinum Bench, Road 13, Hester Creek

Check out the Georgia Straight, they give wine reviews in there that can be helpful. Usually staff at the LDB are helpful if you need a wine for an occasion or special meal

Gewurztraminer from Grey Monk Estate, (okanagan) is always a good call if you preffer something slightly sweeter & light. Pretty much any wine from Grey Monk won't disapoint.

I brought a bottle of the J. Lohr to a dinner last night and everyone seemed to like it. Good recommendation.

I drink a lot of BC VQA to support local economy but would definitely recommend this as a nice inexpensive bottle.

MALBEC - FINCA LOS PRIMOS | BC Liquor Stores

Argentinian labour rates = great value on decent wine.

7 Zins is really good too but I found it didn't go well with red meats as much.
Apothic Red was not really my style, but different strokes for different folks

Carmen Reserva is about $22
