I wouldn't be so sure to count on the Vancouver RE market deflating as a result of Mainland China's anti-corruption blitz. As far as I am concerned, it is too difficult to tell what the fallout is gonna be. The anti-corruption campaign could either scare people into not funneling money out of the country, or it could scare people into accelerating their money funneling before they get caught.

you're right. i dont think vancouver real estate will be solely affected due to chinese anti-corruption drive. although a lot of money have gotten confiscated that otherwise might've ended up here in vancouver. at the end of the day, value drives real estate sales. vancouver is not different than any other city, no matter what the real estate agents would tell you. fundamentally speaking, price in real terms, price to income and price to rent ratio all point to a big correction for this town. its not a matter of if, it's only a matter of when. as i pointed out a few pages back, our country's dependence on exporting natural resources also put us in a vulnerable position if china experiences any problem with their property market.

I hope he sells the house, reinvests the money poorly and loses everything he owns the same day. Greedy fucking pieces of shit like this are ruining the world.

According to the lawsuit, the Hudson Court home is bound by a restrictive covenant that forbids any tree from growing higher than the roofline. The covenant, authored by British Pacific Properties, notes the negative impact unkempt landscaping could have on the Chippendale home.

Romy Chen, owner of the Hudson Court home, has been in breach of the covenant since 2011, according to Kuai, whose suit claims some trees exceed the roofline by 20 feet.
Technically the neighbour is in the wrong, if there is indeed a covenant which restricts the height of the trees. I'm guessing the court will make the neighbour cut the trees and send Mr. Xu Kuai on his merry way

Yup. The homeowner has a case.

You know what would make things way better. Thinking, hey, trees are part of nature, and nature is pretty cool. Its a stupid fucking rule, for stupid people to sue people for stupid things. Clearly common sense should prevail on something like this. the trees are in the bottom corner of a nearly unobstructed sightline out the window in the article. If the tree branches were covering his window, I can understand, but he's literally suing someone because he can see their trees.

Can his neighbor sue him because everytime he drove by, his car is polluting the air therefore it is causing health issues.

Doesn't matter how stupid it is. It's in the covenant, and it appears that the guy who's being sued has been aware of it for years.

actually it may matter if it's stupid. depending on when that covenant was written, it may no longer be valid.

for example, many convenants and liens on many properties were written 40 + years ago, at a time when these convenents and liens did not adhere to modern "laws".

for example, back in the day, many land titles acts and convenants restrict Asians, East indians and blacks from owning land, so that the neighbourhoods remain white neighbourhoods. It's too costly to actually change many of these titles/ covenants and right of ways so they are still there. But if anyone ever tries to enforce these convenants, they would automatically lose as a modern court would say it's against the charter or some sort of human/civil or racial rights act etc.

Home prices always go up? Tell that to the people hit by the real estate bubble down south...
