Reluctantly, I'm putting mine on this weekend. The cities are starting to salt the roads too, so I'll let my steelies take the beating

Got my Altimax Artics from Tirerack, but gonna wait til next weekend to have them mounted. Looks like it's going to be 7 or 8 degrees this week still.

IIRC it's not just the effectiveness at 7 degrees, it's the effects on the rubber compounds when they drop below a certain temperature. There's a bunch of tire shops advertising that they store tires "in a temperature controlled environment" for just such a reason.

Either way, I'm glad I've got mine on so when that first day of dusting comes and everyone panics, I'll be able to drive by pointing and laughing.

Very unlikely. Depending on your truck, you may be able to get steelies for about a hundred bucks at a wrecker, but then tires will probably be about $150/corner, plus installation, fees, taxes, and the like. it's not likely you'll do anything less than a thousand dollars unless you order online and pick up down south.

Even then you'll get hit with taxes and duties.

Got through Hwy 97c today with my Nokian all-seasons. Probably wasn't the best plan, but... meh Pretty sure I was the lowest car on the road in the Interior.

Well he is saying all-seasons, which most of us don't have.

I've made it reasonably ok with all seasons. Its not ideal but its totally doable.

Don't know what he's on, our family X-Trail is passable through the winter with all-seasons but no friggin way I'm trying it with the Civics again. The Corolla I had sliding down the hill uncontrollably in front of me last year was proof enough that winter tires do make a hell of a difference.

Well...maybe he'd be right if you avoided every day with sub-zero conditions, snow, slush, or ice.

Winterized both cars today... winter tires on the SUV, better-treaded ones on the daily driver.

Also topped up fluids, blah blah blah..
