For that price, you can get a Prada bomber. Not sure which one is warmer tho |

It's usually heavily pinned behind the model to give the illusion of slimmer fit and the lighting is designed to trick the viewer. Also, the quality is often shit.

The parkas are way too overkill. They're made for mountains and extreme conditions. It's never gonna be cold enough in Vancouver to actually need that heavy of a jacket. One of my friends was wearing one on one of the coldest Vancouver days, and he was sweating from wearing just a t-shirt under the parka.
I hate how they've become more of a fashion statement/status symbol than anything.
But hey.. to each their own. |
.Yup..it gets Cold in L.A where Kat Von D lives.

good jackets but the image for me is ruined. | Alternatives are MooseKnuckles (made in Canada) and Nobis.
But either way, they are super overkill for Van and neither are really fashionable IMO, unless incorporated into some crazy Arctic streetwear/hypebeast-y fit.

i find vancouver elements can be braved without having to go full arctic explorer mode.
my commuter cold weather ensemble is usually a pea coat, scarf, and layers inside as necessary (merino wool/cashmere can be thin yet warm), and Hunters if it rains (i keep shoes at the office to change in to).
if i'm heading out to pick up a pack of gum from the store i'll just wear a tech shell with something warm inside.

Wow you ride wearing a pea coat? Pretty flexible pea coat or super relaxed riding position?

If you live in Downtown Iqaluit a Canada Goose jacket is very fashionable and practical; a case could even be made that a true cold weather jacket is appropriate for Calgary or Edmonton, but not in Vancouver. I can't imagine throwing a thick down jacket over the back of my chair at a restaurant, sounds very awkward.
I'll be wearing a basic wool peacoat and a Levis x Filson jacket, but may pick up one more if something catches my eye, especially if its a tweed field coat....

Somebody actually went to the trouble of not only removing that guy's head, but making it seem like he never had one in the first place.
Seriously...

Adam Kimmel, Uniform Experiment, and Mastermind just to name a few have done on-going collections with Carhartt.
Plus they've re-branded themselves quite well with their own streetwear collections. http://hypebeast.com/2012/10/a-look-...rtt-wip-milan/ |

I feel a down feather winter jacket is a bit extreme for our climate. I had a moncler and dolce & gabbana down feather jacket, both beautiful jackets, but I swear I must have worn both a total of 3 times in a year before I sold them because every time I wore the jackets I would sweat like a pig.
I would rather go for a nice peacoat, it never goes out of style and is extremely versatile.
