| Diecast Car Models
Sup RS,
So recently I started to collect diecast models.. It started off with me picking up a few cars when I was shopping at Costco (Maisto). Grabbed a white Nissan GTR today actually.
However, after looking at a few Autoarts's I don't think I can continue with the Maisto quality. I'm really looking to collect all the Japanese sports car from my childhood (NSX, RX-7, Fairlady, Supra, MR2, etc..).
A few questions:
1. Is Autoart the top diecast makers?
2. Any other brands I should consider? I'm familiar with (so far) Maisto, Hot Wheels, Burago, Autoart, Kyosho and Motor Max
3. Autoart and Kyosho seem very similiar.. Is there a definitive answer which one is actually better or is this a personal preference?
4. I'm assuming ebay, amazon are the best places to buy? Can't imagine there being a large enough demand for a local store to sell at decent price
5. Finally, for you guys that are serious collectors, do you take them out of the box?
I'm looking for my XMAS present already.. A NSX-R. Actually, any NSX lol
Or a FD RX7

I used to have a crap ton of these back when I was about 8-13ish. But being young and stupid, I ended up breaking the wheels off a lot of them because I was a dumbass and too young to appreciate them. Now that I'm older and have broken my fair share of wheels, I don't have as much, but I do take better care of the few that I have. I've had everything you listed except Kyosho and Motor Max, and yes Autoart diecasts are the most detailed imo. I got a lot of mine from Hong Kong, and a few from places like Zellers and Toys R Us. I don't have any pictures of my current collection, but this is one of the latest and probably my favourite addition: |

Comparison purposes only
I'd say some Kyosho's (such as the r32) are actually better than AutoArt's rendition. Also, you shouldn't stay away from Maisto as some of their models are really good.
Edit: was going to get this as well - http://scale18.com/cgi-bin/page/item...th_Anniversary Really cheap considering it costs around $80-100 on eBay.

1: I would say Autoart would be the upper mid level in. The higher ups would be CMC and BBR
2: With 1/18 prices increasing so much I actually started with 1/43. I find it having a way bigger selection of cars I like more.
4: You can always check out Wilkinson's by Ontario and Broadway. I personally usually buy from Hong Kong and just bring them back myself.
5: I would only take them outta the box if I was to put them on display in a clear box.
Here are some pics to my collection. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...8115211&type=3
Autoart will be coming out with the NSX-R in 2013

I've got hundreds of them from every brand... started same as you with 1:18 Maisto but I pretty much only collect 1:43 nowadays (mostly Minichamps) because of size/space concerns and very rarely buy any 1:18 unless they're something I have to have (I have the AutoArt Lexus LF-A as well as the Pagani Zonda).
I have almost every NSX model every made actually haha... this is what 1 of my shelves looks like (most of the NSX models and some other ones): |

Does anyone know if any of them makes one for the Accord Euro R CL7? I only know Embbro makes one and it's hard to find.

The details and pop-up spoiler and whatnot are very nice... the Pagani has more features on it for sure though.

Need to find my old picture of my McLaren F1 collection. I have a big 1:12 scale one that's worth a few hundred bucks, and then 1:18, 1:32, 1:48, and 1:64 versions too. Just missing my 1:1 scale...

I have a lot of diecast models but I stopped collecting because it just sat on my shelves collecting dust. Now I put them in boxes and stored them in the attic, I only kept a few out on display haha
