Tips for the Drivers test?

Finally.. I've been waiting for this moment my whole life I'm scheduled for my N test soon, and I was wondering if you guys have any tips or advice for passing a drivers test. I've read both the L and N book many times and I practice driving whenever possible... I feel comfortable behind the wheel but many of my friends have failed because of really stupid reasons. (Ex. Not shoulder checking twice when turning right, shoulder checking too much etc..) I didn't take driving lessons because I didn't feel like spending $120 for one lesson... that money could be used for 4 attempts of the test!

Anybody take the test at the Port Coquitlam location? What was the route like?

120$ for one lesson? u didnt bother to look around? mine was 35$

anyways, shoulder checking is huge! shoulder check alot!, also, when you are changing lanes, signal well before, and continue signalling till you are fully in the lane you desire, i almost failed cuz i would let out the signal half way through bad habbit

better to drive under the speed limit a bit than over a bit, and last thing i can think of, school/park zones, do 30 a decent distance before the sign, testers hate when you come up to a school/park zone quick and last second slow quickly down..

also, i hope you practiced ur parallel parking, i think they give you 3 shots with corrections to get it right, i usually have my passenger mirror pointed down enough i can see the curb if i sit up more

good luck!

- Be wary of school zones and playground zones, if over the speed limit they will likely fail you
- I did a lot of pulling over and parallel parking during the course of my test (includes hill parking)
- Shoulder checking is your best friend, just do it whenever you're turning or changing lanes
- Stay within the 50km/hr speed limit, don't try catching up with traffic
- There's also a hazard recognition test where you park somewhere and you have to assess all the hazards around the area (i.e. you're on a hill, many cars around, crosswalks, the weather, trees that might obstruct signs, side streets, etc.)
- Also be wary of your parking brake, and make sure you release it all the way

Good luck on your test!

yea 120$ is way to much for a lesson, maybe it includes warm up and use of the car for the test?

27km in a school/park zone
50km is good
60km is really fast
always be scanning and try to anticipate things

shoulder check shoulder check shoulder check shoulder check shoulder check

read the book over again and make sure you clearly understand the rules of the road

i remember back then when i did my N test i completely didn't see the park/school zone sign and went initial D style through the park where it was super twisty. trail braking and hitting the apex going at 50km/h...LOL then the examiner was like "bro, you DID see the sign right?"
but in the end, i still passed =D

always check your rear view mirror when you are slowing down or stopping

I remember I got nailed a lot of points for this...my instructor never told me...so I never knew I have to check the rear mirror everytime I brake...

another one i thought of today driving to work, pay attention to who has the right of way, i know it seems simple, but if you are merging, turning or just pulling up to stop signs you needa pay attention to those around you, even people with their full licences still have troubles with this apparently as made clear when a car made a right turn on a red light for her and almost got rear ended by a bus that had the right a way earlier this morning

approach turn at 80 on center line
pull hand brake entering turn while turning wheel into direction of turn
once lost control, release handbrake and turn wheel opposite of turn
balance with gas as necessary
once car headlight points where u want to go, put steering wheel into the direction u want to go and floor it

tip: Adjust the seat to about ~60 degrees for that gangstah lean

tip: Remember to floor it mid turn to make your car downshift and dorrrifto, then let offf the gas a bit to hold the drift and not spin out.

tip: if your instructor is a female brake late and 'save her' from hitting the dash nomsayin

tip: ALWAYS hit the apex when turning. Go in wide, hug the corner, go out wide. You can hold the most speed this way and you're instructor will be very impressed by your knowledge. Try playing forza 2 with the guide-lines turned on to help you understand what I'm saying

Be cautious, drive 50 unless otherways posted, he'll take u through 2/3 school/park zones... Be carefull. Stop for pedestrians at crosswalks(if they there). Lol
Mirror checks every 30 seconds... Shoulder checks on every turn(merge)... If he ever tells u to park n get outta the car SHOULDER CHECK before u open that fkn door... I know dozens who got failed for that lol...

Be patient, during the test, it will seem like everyone out there is trying to get you failed. Not that they're doing this on purpose, but they see someone on the road with an L-sign and go full derp mode and think that they must pass you. Shoulder check more carefully, other drivers will be trying pass you most of the test.

This advice I would avoid. Shoulder checking is your best friend.. Dont rely on your mirrors for anything.
Change lane/Making turns/Parking (parallel/reverse), SHOULDER CHECK!

this is a big one..

at the STOP line
STOP so you can see it above your hood. If you/tester cant see that stop line.. god help you son. MAKE SURE its the STOP LINE and not the pedestrian crosswalk line!!!!

making right/left turns..
look in the direction you want to turn first to make sure no pedestrian.. then the opposite way for oncoming cars then BACK in the direction you want to go and check last time for pedestrian.

many times i see people just look for oncoming cars but not the pedestrian in crosswalk the second time..

Before driving
Make sure ALL the turn signals work.. ask the tester (some are sneak and just hop into the car) if he can go walk around the car while you test the lights.

NO PHONE/MUSIC
self explanatory. shut off your phone.. dont touch the stereo...

Talk to the tester
Explain what you are about to do. like Im going to signal then shoulder check and then lane change, etc... this way, he knows that you know what your doing.

Do not get distracted
When you make a mistake and the tester makes a noise like you did something wrong.. Dont look at him or bother him.. just keep driving and correct yourself quickly

No sudden lane change
If theres a bus stopped or something, dont do a sudden lane change.. stay put behind it and take your time..

I took mine over 2 years ago at the Oxford location. If it helps any, my route was down Lougheed towards Coquitlam, south on Shaugnessy, drive around the streets in that area, around parks, school zones, etc. Merge back onto Lougheed on the Coquitlam side, near the Lougheed/Dewdney Trunk intersection, follow route back to the test center area. Don't remember the specific side streets, but hope you can get a general idea.

Oops the above is for the Class 5 road test, for the N they try to avoid highways. Lougheed is pretty slow though so should be ok, they might also just have you drive around the Oxford/Prarie area.

My test is next week lol, never had any lessons yet, just parents taught.

I've been googling this shit and a couple people are saying you need to 360 degree check before your park or reverse? Whats that, just looking 360 degrees around your car or what?

Also would point grey or richmond be a better testing location?

Should read the book but i guess im too lazy
