Sushi Platters - Best place near Metrotown?

I am having people over in 2 weeks and want to purchase a decent sized sushi platter (Nigiri, Sashimi, and rolls).

Presentation and quality is important - Can you guys recommend a few places near Burnaby/Metrotown? I know there are a ton of places, so I'm looking for specific recommendations in terms of platters.

Thanks!

Near by Metrotown:
Sushi Garden
Oyama Sushi

Not as close to metro as others:
Kita Sushi (I like their deep fried crispy Kita roll)

Really recommend sushi garden (across metro), food is tasty and fresh.
Cant get enough of their prawn tempura.

Might get busy so make reservations if needed for big party.

IMO, Oyama Sushi sucks, their rolls have way too much rice that I can't even taste the topping.

i know you want it to be near metro. Oyama and Sushi Garden are good and offer a fair price but Sushiholic is better than both by far. Sushi Garden gives very generous proportions but Sushiholic has both quality and generous proportions for their party trays. Party trays are cheaper too. Sushiholic also offers a lot of speciality sushi (which can get a bit pricy) but theyre very presentable and good. Used to go to Sushi Garden a lot but i havent really been back since i discovered sushiholic lol.

Presentation is kind of important for me, any of the above recommendations or new recommendations have nice looking/presented platters?

Samurai sushi?? =p

Who the fuck would even bother recommending Oyama Sushi? I went there once because my friends recommended that it was a good spot.

Yeah, well guess what? I ended up having to pick off rice from every piece. I thought I was eating at Samurai Sushi.

LOL I did the same, had like a big pile of rice after. Not worth it for what you pay. If I wanted to be picking out rice, I much rather go to Samurai Sushi or Sushi Nanaimo.

Matlock 01-11-2013 04:37 PM

Ok, I have a good one for you. Not Burnaby, but...
Go to Nanaimo Sushi (I've only been for take out)
Get the DX Chirashi Don. Holy shit that's a lot of sashimi value for about $16. Totally worth it. When I'm not totally starved I can share this with my gf.

Nlkko 01-11-2013 04:52 PM

Sushi Garden is the bomb. Near Brentwood/Gilmore skytrain.

Not really racist! 01-11-2013 05:25 PM

You lost all credibility when I read "authentic Japanese chefs".

Phil@rise 01-11-2013 06:06 PM

sushiholic and sushi california both sound soooo authentic lol

miss_crayon 01-11-2013 07:52 PM

You want authentic? Sushi Kamizato in poco. Nowhere near metro but worth the drive!
