How to de-odorize some rank ass shit smell

I done goofed. I have a Dyson vaccuum cleaner and i used it as a wet vac... then I didn't clean out the canister... 3 months later(sigh) i made a new life form... It resembles shit and smells like curry in a diaper.

So I soaked the entire canister and cyclone unit in ammonia for like 2 weeks, stuck a hose in hit and soaked it for another 2 weeks and it still smells like shit. Like gagging puke inducing smell.

The parts are made of plastic. Any idea on how to clean and deodorize this fucker? Thanks in advance.

throw it away and buy a new one? ;)

Alcohol?

Soak parts in white vinegar, baking soda, and hot water solution for a couple days, you probably wont need more than a spoonful or two of the baking soda.

baking soda neutralizes odors

i used it in the kitchen after an oven fire smoked the whole place
i used it in the car after my cloth seats were soaked in hot chocolate

i keep a container of it in the car now instead of air fresheners

supposedly Vinegar, Baking Soda, Warm Water will deoderize plastic

here's a page suggesting several more materials to do so

plastic stains/soaks up shit, so even with those cleaning agents, if you've let it ferment for awhile it'll probably be tough to clean out

Psykopathik 12-18-2012 07:29 AM

bleach?

jepho 12-18-2012 08:44 AM

i thought i remember reading somewhere about first washing the plastic with a solution of vinegar and lemon juice. dry it off then put it in the freezer for a week. (hopefully it will fit). Something about the cold neutralizing the odor.
cant remember where i heard this though.

same thing happened to my shitty vacuum.. Tried everything but it still smells like shit. My hockey gear smells better than the vacuum lol.

vitaminG 12-18-2012 01:23 PM

sometimes if ammonia doesnt get it out, bleach will. I did the same thing with a tupperware once, soaked in bleach, then soaked in ammonia. then soaked in baking soda. it ended up looking/smelling fine.

Preemo 12-18-2012 03:47 PM

Thank God for baking soda.

Valour 12-18-2012 05:02 PM

So scrub with baking soda or soak in warm water?

EmperorIS 12-18-2012 05:24 PM

pee in it.

sean_latte 12-18-2012 05:34 PM

Holy eff, I can't even imagine a smell worse than hockey gear.

I tried... It just made it angrier :(

What worked, scrubbed it with mr. clean and then saturated the whole unit with baking soda, then warm soak for 15 min and a final scrub.

pingu81 01-07-2013 09:36 AM

Did you replace the filter?

chunk_stir 01-07-2013 10:56 AM

I had the same problem with our dyson. Soaking fulling Bleach for the cannister and cyclone worked. While rinsing out the filter with vinegar or baking soda did the job.

N.V.M. 01-07-2013 04:10 PM

buy a new one, and return it, with your old one in the box.

Valour 01-07-2013 07:01 PM

The filter is washable

Lowered_Klass 01-08-2013 08:04 PM

All my ideas have already been posted by others, so hopefully one of them work.

Just as a reminder if some don't know... Do NOT mix bleach and ammonia!

Should be an automatic, but there's always a chance someone doesn't know...
