Chevron gas station charged me for $125, only pumped $60

I looked through my CC online statement. and saw $125 charge from few weeks ago at Chevron.
Strange, there is no way I would pump that much gas, my car can't even hold that much.
I am pretty sure I only pumped around $60 that day.

It looks like they pre-authorized $125 and didn't apply the correct charge.

what can I do? besides filing charge back

vafanculo 12-23-2012 08:19 AM

File charge back

Similar thing happened to Shell customers few weeks ago

This happened to me at a supersave once. One of the attendants charged me 11$~ extra for a 30$ fillup on my CC. Probably was a pack of smokes or something. I called the manager and explained the situation and he reviewed the cameras and refunded me after apologizing profusely.

tiger_handheld 12-23-2012 10:36 AM

take the receipt from the gas station and go to location. if you didn't take a receipt file chargeback.

MeowMeow 12-23-2012 12:25 PM

Kinda related
petro Canada on 3 road and Granville filled up my car when I asked for fifty
Attendant had the nerves to tell to quote on quote "shut the fuck up"
I didn't get a refund from the manager but don't really care
Flipped shit about attendant's language and attitude and complained to the head office

I won't call just yet. My MBNA card always does that, charge me $125, and once the transaction goes through, then the correct amount will apply. That is, if your transaction is appearing as "temp" right now.

I also gas at Chervon, so it might be a Chervon thing

Oleophobic 12-23-2012 12:59 PM

The $125 was from a few weeks ago so I doubt it would still be listed as a temporary authorization

Mr.HappySilp 12-23-2012 01:31 PM

call for charge back. Same thing happen to my sister once. I know they do it for their security but come on do it right!

i hate those stupid preauth systems. Happened to me with a rental car in the USA in fuck no where new mexico. Signed for the preauth, then signed again for the pumped gas, a month later gets the cc bill and I got charged both for the preauth AND final cost. CC company said they couldn't do a charge back because I signed for both the preauth and final bill. What a stupid system screw up. Since then, I've been paying all by cash when I fill up in no where places that I will never go back to.

Don't know why you got failed, but I notice the same temp/pre-auth thing on my MBNA bill when I check it online... It goes away after a few days, then on my statement, I'm only charged the actual amount.

noTirl 12-24-2012 09:24 AM

Just checked mines as well. Its usually temp of 100 only but this time its 125 as well. Will be on the look out for when the transaction goes all the way through. Hopefully no mistake.

Oops - you're right... :okay:

Yea those Pre Authorize shit is hella annoying. I notice now at Petro they actually ask you at the machine before hand if they can pre authorize up to $100 where as before you had no choice. Although I haven't selected no yet to see what happens :suspicious:

trollface 12-29-2012 08:33 AM

Just a thought here. Are you 100% sure that fill up was even you or has your CC been copied?

dink 12-29-2012 12:11 PM

It's a pre-authorized transaction. You will not get charged $125. I went through the same thing with my new mastercard. Mine showed up in the temp. authorizations for about 2 weeks.

if it is a mistake, do you have a receipt?

Gnomes 12-29-2012 04:27 PM

Temp preauthorizations should last no more than 1 week.

Domani 12-29-2012 04:48 PM

are you looking at temp charges portion of your online account?

TOPEC 12-29-2012 10:06 PM

Pre auth on cc r only held a certain number of days n then gets released if the merchant does not complete the pre auth. If u got CHARGED the full $125, then someone purposely put through the full of $125.

n ppl pls read what op wrote, he clearly knows the diff between pre auth amount n charged amounts

Manic! 12-29-2012 10:34 PM

did you pay inside or outside? did you type in a pin number?
