SURREY (NEWS1130) – Traffic is a mess on the Port Mann Bridge this morning.

There are two separate accidents, involving about 20 vehicles.

“Mid-span, there’s a nine-car pile-up westbound. Then we were at a dead-stop again; there are 13 cars after that on the west side of the westbound Port Mann,” describes one caller to News1130 this morning.

Traffic is moving, but very slowly.

It seems like the fog has frozen to the bridge deck.

20 cars need may need repair but 18 people getting there rates raised in two accident, not sure if that's a win or loss for ICBC?

mb_ 01-03-2013 06:38 AM

That's a win, ICBC loves money

I fucking hate dealing with ICBC...

Seems the accident heading eastbound is cleared up already.

melloman 01-03-2013 07:00 AM

Is it just me, or does the "new" Portmann bridge seem to be causing a lot more headaches then good.

jtanner_ 01-03-2013 07:03 AM

It's definitely taken its toll

Everything's a win for ICBC, no matter whose at-fault, everyone's rates get jacked.

blkgsr 01-03-2013 08:04 AM

it was retarded this morning....i was heading east bound around 6:45 so it wasn't too bad for me but west bound was FUCKED

murd0c 01-03-2013 08:11 AM

I'm just happy that chunks of ice didn't fall on my head while I was stopped on the bridge this morning :)

gdoh 01-03-2013 08:32 AM

yea i just missed all of it this morning (5:40 ish) going west, but going east there was a van in the HOV with his hazards on and a little behind the van was a truck that was side ways =/ people need to learn how to adjust for driving conditions

The 401 in Toronto has 6 lanes going in each direction, with some areas (near the airport, for example) being even wider (8 lanes, I think?). I'm not saying the 401 is accident-free -- in fact, it is far from it. But it really doesn't seem to generate as much news as the Port Mann...

Hondaracer 01-03-2013 11:34 AM

Because people know how to drive there when its 0 deg..

The engineers are more at fault for the falling ice than the accidents on the bridge today due to icy conditions.

Face it - many of us in Vancouver do NOT know how to drive in winter conditions.

inv4zn 01-03-2013 12:20 PM

It's much more basic than just driving skill - it's a bloody lack of common sense.

Gh0stRider 01-03-2013 12:34 PM

poor winter driving skills + icy roads = disaster
