What won't you eat and why? Graeme, darthchilli and I were talking about bluefin and eating endangered animals so I thought I should ask the same question of RS. Is there anything you won't eat? For what reason? We brought up several examples. Blue fin is endangered but delicious so yep, I'd still eat it. People think eating live octopus is cruel but it's awesome and interesting so yep, I'd still eat it. I draw the line at genitalia and stuff that was/is poop like that wacky coffee but if someone made me roast baby whooping crane tomorrow, I'd nom nom the heck out of that thing. |
+1 on the live octo! Had it in korea...omg best thing of my life!! Plus I love octopus..gahh!!! Posted via RS Mobile |
Not anything endangered or unethical, but I absolutely will not eat bananas. Just not a fan of the smell, the texture, the taste, and the fact that I can always hear the wet mushy noise it makes when it is being chewed up ...especially when i'm sitting in a lecture and the person beside me whips one out and goes to town with it. Seems to happen all the time and it drives me insane. :fuuuuu: |
any creatures with it's spine facing the sky is edible.... and i stay true to that. |
big macs they are shit, but i love other McD items |
Mushrooms! I'm super picky when it comes to mushrooms. Enoki is alright.. on top of pizza I'll tolerate. Shredded wood ear fungus I can eat. Otherwise I avoid it like the plague. |
Beets!! I just can't do it eh, tried one time and I almost threw up in the mess hall. It was quite embarrassing. I think it's the texture??? |
dogs I'm not against others eating it. But I personally wouldn't because I'm a dog owner Posted via RS Mobile |
reptiles - just plain gross cats - i love kitties dogs - i love pups shark fin- too cruel anything alive- too cruel avocado- texture is weird as fawk, but ill tolerate it if i have to animal inards - disgusting raw seafood - gross really smelly fish like snapper - gross octopus - gross eel - gross blood pudding - gross pork -makes me sick to my stomach plus i like turkey bacon better fatty meats - makes me sick goose - smelly and weird tasting duck - same thing as goose anything that causes pain to an animal i wont eat, like veal or foie gras for example. |
Nothing morally holds me back. I'm ok to eat anything, except humans lol. However, I am quite picky, and I wish I wasn't so easily turned off just by the texture, or cooking conditions. The list would be long. The majority being found in the Asian cuisine. In short, I might be hesitant to eat something in someones house, but, I'll have no problem eating it at a restaurant (although I even know that chances are its more 'cleaner' to eat it from a friends home). Peanut Butter. Can't even stand the smell of it. I'll make sure I wipe the knife clean before putting butter on my toast if there is left over peanut butter on it. I do like peanuts and have no allergies however... Posted via RS Mobile |
I actually don't eat veggies. My mom gave up on trying to make me ages ago after her trying for some years. I hate the taste + texture. I do however have no issues with it if it's a soup since the veggies have been boiled taking away that texture and the taste is gone. I'm also not so anal that I will sit there and pick out every last little bit like in a fried rice for example. That's small enough and will just blend into the rice so I'll just eat it. The only hand full of veggies I eat straight up aren't even really veggies such as mushrooms, corn, potato, and onions. Otherwise I'm totally game to eat anything usually. |
just the ones i can remember atm: peas, avocado, egg yolks, beets, liver, raw onions no specific reason for any of the above... most have to do with texture/taste though |
Cilantro, hate the taste and smell of it Posted via RS Mobile |

A four and nine month old calf are slaughtered under the same practices, and equally humane/inhumane in terms of 'pain.' |
Celery strong weird taste. Posted via RS Mobile |
Animals are food. If they don't like it, they should stop being delicious. I'm actually going to be writing a piece on not eating shark fin but not for the reasons most people choose. I can get on board with it because, having eaten a couple hundred bowls of the stuff in my lifetime, the actual shark fin doesn't add much to the dish. Fois gras, on the other hand, is awesome in every way and I would help fight anything that considers banning it. Quote:

Philippine cuisine called balut (google it, but be warned). Was scarred as a child when I witnessed a beak and feathers come out from it. Posted via RS Mobile |
