^ I had a feeling you would. Are you gonna sign up for that Equifax monitoring thing they're offering?

Just saw this thread. Haven't been able to call this weekend but will next week. I have a feeling I'm on that list.

Anyone know how to get in on this class action suit?

So, what is the worst that could happen if the info got into the wrong hands?

Once they have your info it's smooth sailing from there. Have you seen underaged people getting fake ids to get liquor and get inside clubs and shit? It's not that different.

I love how they have you go through the big thing of consenting to sharing of your information with the credit monitoring agency.

Um, honey...isn't the cat already out of the bag on that one?

What people should be furious about is that these guys are in charge of holding sensitive information. Do you guys know how easy it is to encrypt a hard drive, its like wearing your seat belt when driving a car, you just do it. Its fast, easy and saves you from any problems.. but no, let's store info on a non encrypter hdd .

Also on the list... called in and added note to credit file. They also said once the system is updated in about 2 weeks, I could get a free credit report by mail.

Another question is WHY are they using the HD to store such sensitive information? Why isn't it on a secure central server or computer? And if they needed to, why could they have encrypted it (as many others have already pointed out)?

Hopefully it turns up somewhere, though I'm not holding my breath...

Exactly. If you encrypt it, no body can access it.
They can try to brute force it, but depending on what type of encryption you did.. it could take them at least billions of years to crack, aka, they get shit all from your stolen hard drive.
