I have been told by the newspaper, restaurants, retailers, etc. that the high prices in the past few seasons were due to the king crabs being a high end hot commodity in Mainland China. With the anti-corruption crackdowns that have been going on, lavish feasts seems to have have dwindled in numbers.

I wonder if that would cause a reduced demand in China, and some corresponding lower prices here?

Let's hope so ... I remember like 6-7 years ago you could find some (semi-shady) places selling for $8.88... then last year the cheapest one I could find was like $36

I don't think the season is here yet.. it is 44.80 at kirin and the biggest they have so far is a 10lb crab.

FYI for anybody that is interested:

T & T is selling King crab for $26.## per lb (on a flyer), and their crabs are 7lbs or lower.

I think the season is about to start.

Kirin has it for 38.88 today, the one I went to have a 14lb one.. congee noodle house has it for 35/lb.
