Psychiatrist?

Need to talk to a psychiatrist for ADHD so I can apply to SFU's Center for Students with Disabilities. Are they any low cost ones around the lower mainland? I hear they can be expensive, and I already have prescriptions for meds. I just need a brief interview so they can fill out forms saying I DO have adhd. Apparently the family physician isn't qualified to do so... but are qualified to prescribe said drugs. :suspicious:

Get a referral from your GP. If he and/or she won't give you a referral, go to SFU and see if there are counselling services provided to students. I can almost guarantee they'll have them.

PSYCHIATRISTS ARE FREE AND COVERED BY MEDICARE

PSYCHOLOGISTS COST MONEY BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT DOCTORS.

and yes you need your psych to fill it out.

Call VGH mental health. Thats where I went after my psych said I couldn't come to her anymore because she was reserved for langara students (graduated)

Are all psychiatrists free? I've always heard they're really expensive, like 100+ an hour.

Like Graeme said, get a referral from your GP. If they refer you there shouldn't be any charge to you.

Cool, thanks! For some reason I've always had the image of me sitting down on a couch.. with a psychiatrist asking me for money LOL. Gotta love MSP :)~~

you don't need a referral.

Psychiatrists are not specialists.

They are medical mental health doctors.

Go on a fruit diet for a few month and see if that helps. We often eat nutrition less or bad food and that effects mental health.

LOL. God, the misinformed.

Psychiatrists ARE specialists. They are required to first obtain their MD, then be accepted into Psychiatry residency, and become accredited by the FRCPC which is the Canadian governing body of medical specialists.

If you want MSP to pay for your visit to a certified psychiatrist, you will need a referral from a GP. However, to avoid the waiting process you are able to make an appointment but you will have to pay a fee (different depending on where you go).

meowjinboo 03-05-2013 02:21 AM

What are you on?

I went straight to my psych and skipped the doctor. I never got a referral and it was covered by MSP.

If you are ever having a mental emergency, you can just walk right into Richmond hospital Psych ward and see a psychiatrist.

ok I take it back.

the politically correct term is "mentally disabled". And no he's not, not until he gets the note from the psychiatrist. Haven't you read his thread you retard?
