Talking to him on google+ now, he was using intensity=20 which is crazy. People get huge numbers with high intensity, but that is ignoring stability and hardware errors (and can damage cards). It's only for showing off huge hashrates, and it really helps nobody, as we can see.

Personally I run my cards on an open bench, with a single 14cm fan blowing between the two cards. The 280X runs at 85C and the 7870 is about 60 I think. If it was summer time I probably wouldn't even be able to mine without AC... I just want to get as much mined before the weather heats up

Anything 70 and under I would consider to be good temp. I have my rig open case in my cool basement. It's cold as hell even in summer, haha.

That's the default configuration that LTCRabbit recommended for their Linux OS. I didn't know shit and assumed it would be ok. Skinny recommended me some better settings.

Looking into building a mining rig for LTC and it seems like the r9 280's and 7970's are out of stock everywhere. Anyone have a clue where I could get some for a reasonable price?

7970 is called 280X now and should be easy to find

If you have the $ it's worth getting a 290 instead. It's more efficient and will mine more before it becomes useless in a few months

For all the BTC Miners out there,

What do you think of the upcoming difficulty increase?

I am planning to look into purchasing a 200Gh Avalon machine but the price so far is $4.5k USD, trying to think out if it's worth it. I can gather 4BTC at today's difficulty in a month which will almost break me even. With the increase in 4 days.... I will gain 3BTC in 1 month. Just seeing if it's worth it, only thing holding me back is when the next difficulty increase will it be not worth the money.

If you can get it last week or yesterday, sure. If you can get it tomorrow, it still might be worth it. Maybe.

Haha that's a pretty impressive stack but still going to get OWNED on the value proposition by the purpose-built machines for heat, space, electricity consumption, etc.

I'm in the same boat with a different currency.

Almost makes sense to just stick with BTC and try to time/trade the highs and lows.

Hindsight is 20/20 though

Yeah, if I knew what the market was going to do and hold instead of sell I'd have around 100k in the bank. And yeah, in the bank. I would have quickly withdrawn and gotten out while ahead lol.

He'll make a lot of LTC in the next 3-4 months no problem. After that he can sell them, even at a loss on ebay or something it's a good investment.

Usually comes down faster IMO.

Many companies were accepting Bitcoin without thinking it fully through. One part was for promotional/marketing/novelty aspect, the other part was to save fees, but how many really understood that the Bitcoin market is largely backed by the common man. And when exchange losses rack up in the upcoming days, more and more companies will opt out - further depressing the BTC.

The Lambo company who accepted Bitcoin for the Tesla must be really hitting themselves, they lost 30% literally in a couple of days. You think they are going to keep up with accepting Bitcoins? doubt it.

http://www.wired.com/autopia/2013/12/tesla-bitcoin/

That 1000 BTC's..now worth 72, 500....they lost over 30,000. Lol

Quote:
Such a car would retail for more than $110,000 new. Although the dealer didn’t say what the Tesla sold for, the Bitcoin buyer would’ve had to shell out around 1,000 units of the virtual currency, assuming the car is new.
Maybe this transition into the digital currency era will take a tad longer than we all thought
