I'd bet that we don't see a scrypt ASIC (or even FPGA) that will be more price and energy efficient than video cards before the end of this year.

ASICs are derived from FPGAs. Once they start make ASICs there is no need for FPGAs because ASICs is cheaper and faster.

The problem with ASICs is whether they can find a foundry to take on small amount of work considering places like TSM are overbooked. I would assume the volume for this a particular ASIC won't be a big run.

Alpha-T have one in the process of being built.

25mh/s and 600 watts.

Cost is $10,000.

ETA September.

if you were to mine with GPU's you would probably be at $18,000 and 10,000 watts to do 25mh/s.

"process of being built" is a lot different from having them up and running, hashing at the expected rate with the expected power consumption, with good reliability and durability.

And with ASICS you can add several months to the ETA usually

Getting ready to be traded on Wall St.

Zynga is starting to support it

Latest rumor is Netflix will start to support it as well

Like I said, I don't think it will be under $1000 for long, and could hit crazy highs this year ($5000 and up)

This could be a possibility.

Any thoughts about the China Ban for near the end of Jan though?

I think we might see some large volatility during that time and then a rise for rest of the year.

China bans everything, so it doesn't really change anything.. All it did was set things back from the high it reached when people in China were buying it while they could.

There will still be volatility of course, as it's still very new.

First major company to support it, it explodes and everyone will follow. Guaranteed all of the big players are looking hard.

<-not involved ^ just my opinion

Just noticed a "Bitcoiniacs" store with an ATM popped up in Kelowna a month ago.

I should have looked harder into Bitcoins a year ago when I first started lightly reading about it. Now Im way behind

Why would a major company support a currency so volatile?

My Sapphire 280X died after less than 2 months of mining.. RMA'd it (I was told it would take a while due to CNY) and bought and XFX 280X for the time being. Will sell the Sapphire on ebay when it comes back.

I know 280X and 290 prices are inflated in the US, but they are fine here

What crash?

Big news lately, as the biggest mining pool is getting close to becoming "too big". In other words, it's possible that with 51% of the mining power, they have the ability to maliciously attempt double-spends.

I think they have said that they won't do this, but having the power to do so is dangerous enough.
