School me on Work Visa/Permit in the US

So I'm currently a student and will be graduating this summer. Also I'm a Canadian citizen (so I'm not a permanent residence or immigrant status).

A relative of mine might have an internship/job opportunity for me in the states. However, he mentioned that I would have to relocate and would need to figure out the work visa/permit procedures myself

Can anyone give me a quick run down as to how it works? Is there a certain permit for students/recent grads and internships? I read really briefly about like a TN status but that would require a qualifying offer for a position that fits under a list of NAFTA positions or something like that

TIA
