Sunil Tripathi, the person who was falsely accused of being the Boston bomber in a 4chan/Reddit witchhunt, has committed suicide. http://www.thestar.com/news/world/20..._bombings.html

They are also what separate traditional news organizations from social media such as Reddit, 4chan and Facebook. There was a female Redditor from Toronto who got assaulted. However, someone saw her post pictures of herself with zombie makeup on, and her posts on Gonewild-it was unilaterally decided that she was faking it. She got death threats and had to post a video proving the wounds were real. Witchhunts and jumping to conclusions only ruin lives, as so tragically demonstrated.

Is that the Brown student who went missing a week or a month before the bombings?
I think there may be a chance that the accusations on 4chanedditbook had no affect since if he was missing for that long he may have already committed suicide/etc and clearly has separate issues

RIP | Let's not jump to conclusions yet. The cause of his death wasn't determined yet - no one knows if he committed suicide or if there was foul play.
The article said that he was already missing since last month - it could be completely unrelated to the bombing.

I agree that the internet didn't directly kill him, but they made his family's life a living hell. And that's just as bad.
