| Ikea vs Home Depot for room renovation?
I'm planning to "renovate" my room. My room is quite small and I plan to get a new computer desk, cabinet, mirror, and perhaps even a new bed.
Where's the best place to get these things in terms of quality for the price? Ikea, Home Depot, etc?
Also, what junk removal service/person do you guys use? It seems like many services are really expensive. I don't have any friends who have "trucks" so they can't help me.

don't go to Home Depot for any of the items you just listed, IKEA specializes in every single thing you are getting and at awesome prices....
you should slap on a fresh coat of paint while you're at it moving everything around, will do wonders not just for look but it will get rid of old funky smells that your old paint has absorbed over the years....
as far as junk removal... Home Depot sells or gives out those big giant removal bags where it works like a bin, you take it home fill it up with garbage and call the people to come take it away... they were on Dragon's Den, I heard that it's priced fairly well.... like $80 for a load or somethin

Thank you both! IKEA it is. I actually moved to Richmond recently. Is there any junk removal in Richmond you guys recommend? I'm planning to throw out my old computer desk/cabinet.

you know, actually you'd be surprised at what Craighs List people will come take off your hands.... when I was helping my parents move out their house I put up so much old furniture on FREE TO TAKE on Craigs List and so many people contacted me to come grab it.... I just unloaded all the shit into the front yard and in the same day people came and picked it all up
if your old furniture isn't beat up all that badly, you will probably find someone on CL to come take it

^your room seems pretty big, so I would suggest a bigger desk. I dont think I could do much work with the size of the desk you just posted. And dark brown looks nice with the room setting. Or go black, everything looks good with black.

How often will you be moving?
I ask because I find that Ikea stuff is good for one time use. Once you set it up, that's that. If you take it apart, and rebuild it somewhere else, it's never the same.

Wuuhoo, my room is actually much smaller. The picture is not my room, just very similar wall/carpet colours. Thanks for the suggestions though!
I won't be moving for perhaps 4-5 years.

Check out IKEA Hackers. Lots of good ideas to re-purpose Ikea furniture.
As for computer desks, don't waste your time getting the ones you listed with those useless compartments. They make for a cramped space. Tabletop and 4 legs all the way.

Obviously budget is up to you, but I wouldn`t buy any of those desks. They just won`t hold up.
If you like that style, I would recommend the jerker desk(insert pun here). It`s built off a metal frame, and would avoid that cheap particle board moving issue that some Ikea stuff has.
Or just get a normal desk. I personally don`t like the open compartment types because its so hard to have them look clean.

I dunno about you but I don't like facing the wall.
i'd have a big L shaped desk facing away from the wall, but against the wall... kinda make sense?
so i'm facing the open room with my back against the wall. u gotta keep the wires tidy cuz they are "showing". | |
