It's summer...I think it's totally fine to wear some bright colours..as long as it's not head to toe (bright neon yellow shorts with navy blue tee is OK). C'mon its 2013..guys don't need to be stuck with neutrals..

And I think OP doesn't mean the super short shorts that chicks wear..(I hope not)

I answer the door in my boxer briefs all the time. Scares away the salesmen and jehova witnesses.

You can visit the market and search from Google, Then you would find the best answer. One thing remeber don't forget to purchase sunglasses with shorts it give you a stylish look and it is also better for eyes protection in summer.
