Are dash cams allowed during ICBC road tests?

My little brother is borrowing my car for his class 7 test. Just wondering about the legality of having the dashcam automatically turn on while driving (considered as hand-free device?) I was not able to find the answer through google. I am hoping to capture anything my brother do that might fail him and learn from that.

Any insights?

I turned my buddies off when I took my class 5, I was driving his car. I had told the instructor if I can keep it on but he said to pls turn it off which I did. I think it all depends, like if I took a test in my current car, my dash can is hidden well behind my rear view mirror that I don't think he could tell its there. If its a huge dash cam and its in plain sight I suggest just taking it off. Doesn't do you any harm but I guess ur bro could always ask the instructor what he would like

Word, I don't see any issues.
I mean, driving instructors already know the routes.

No, it is prohibited. It is not allowed to use dash cam to operate when you do a road testing. I heard this policy from a ICBC instructor.

Then again if you use a dashcam during the test, then can't you record the whole route and process by which the examiner uses? I mean examiners usually have different routes they take but you recording the whole route for one is already a good solid benefit.

^If your dashcam was found by examiner, the instructor who owns the vehicle might lose his job. This is very serious

So you can use your own vehicle with dash cam to do the test if you want to. But it is still prohibited.

No, He/ She won't. As long as it doesn't affect the exam. Besides the instructor is not affiliated with ICBC. The instructor is an independent operator loaning a car to the student, as long as the car is roadsafe it is fine. The examiner can request / make sure the camera is turned off.

that was my first thought when i read that an ICBC instructor said it was illegal.

i cant see any reason why it would be an issue as you are not touching it or being distracted by it.
the way i see it, its the same as asking "am i allowed to have my phone in my pocket on silent"...

i could see an examiner having an issue with it as they probably dont want to be recorded doing their job so someone can dispute a fail if they did fail someone for a reason which said instructor cant justify if there is video to dispute it.

Called icbc... seems to be site specific. The burnaby location says no to dash cam.

seems like no one would be willing to have someone record them on the job, easier for instructors/icbc to say no, than deal with all the problems of having shitty instructor/test.. imagine how many people would go back and complain about instructors if everyone was taking videos of their tests. would be a shit show pretty quick
