「This is What Winning Looks Like」VICE Documentary re: Afghanistan

Full Documentary: vice.com/winning

Quote:
Ben Anderson went to Afghanistan in 2007 to make a film about the vicious fighting between underequipped British forces and the Taliban in Helmand, the country's most violent province. He didn't plan on staying for six years. But we're glad he did, because now we have This Is What Winning Looks Like, a disturbing new documentary about the ineptitude, drug abuse, sexual misconduct, and corruption of the Afghan government and its security forces as well as the role of US Marines during the troop withdrawal.

Watching part 3 of this series right now and it seems like the US is leaving the country worse of than it was 10 years ago. Seems to me that this is creating a situation to create more anti-US/western sentiment and more reasons for a new generation of "terrorists" to rise up.

Its good that the US is getting out but they aren't leaving much to show for their efforts.

If the people refuse to help themselves and take control of their own country, of course no amount of foreign intervention will help them.

Whereas countries try to build themselves up as Rwanda did after a lengthy period of instability, Afghanistan seems incapable of doing so despite the efforts of the most powerful country in the world to help them.

Are they unwilling to get their shit together, or just too goddamn stupid to do so? Either way, despite their best intentions the Afghan people will hate the western forces (including Canadian ones) because there was no magic wand solution to change their country into paradise.

they should learn from china. Don't invade a place you don't plan to take care of and maintain under your wing.
