Driver and Passenger tint. i see lots First off its a very stupid law IMO. Why is it so important for an officer to see in your Vehicle, shouldn't we be able to have the right to privacy ? All across Canada its allowed, (Alberta, TO, Manitoba) is it not? What are you thoughts? i guess a lot of poeple just don't care cause i see it every other day it seems. |

No doubt.. |
If it's really that important an issue to you, you should write to your local MLA. :) |

Maybe it is important for police officers to want to know whether the person(s) they are pulling over doesn't have a gun ready to load em up with rounds. |
Personally, I hate it when people have front tint. Don't care about cops being able to see you, but I'd like to see you when I'm crossing the street so I know you see me before I step on off the curb. Too many times, people turning don't pay attention to pedestrians and being able to see where the driver is looking helps. |
did someone just get a ticket:ifyouknow: |
I guess it also depends on what % their tint is as well. I've seen cars with all around tint myself around the area however the ones I noticed are from Washington State. They are allowed to have all around with limit of 24% VLT (which means could use a tint of 35% or 30% [depending on the actual tint spec]). It isn't too dark and people outside can see through. |
i thought the whole point of the rule was so that is more a safety concern for the driver, rather than the police. it is so that you can clearly see out of your side and the passenger side. i was also told that if the window was tinted by the window manufacturer, it is legal. its just the ones that you can peel off is illegal. why? i have no clue considering they both tint the window none the less. |
Let's say you flip your car and your doors won't open. If you kick out your tinted windows you'll have a tough time because the film will keep the window somewhat intact. That was my assumption on why it is illegal to tint front windows.. |

front tint is not legal in alberta. they have road blocks checking for illegal mods here too. if I happen to leave an AB plated car in BC and a BC plated car in AB... then i'm fine. |

i used drive sk plate (no front plate like ab) and cop stop me and give me ticket without front plate. and he dont believe that sk dont use front plate |
wtf!!! how long ago was that??? I don't have a front plate on my AB car!! |

It's a stupid law to ban front-side tint outright. 70% VLT would be acceptable - light enough to let people see the driver, just dark enough to provide some heat and UV protection. |

I'll tell you why I don't like front tint: eye contact. Several times this week as I've been oot and aboot for my walks around the neighborhood, I've made eye contact with drivers as they've pulled up to stop signs and/or red lights. And you know what? When I do that, they stop at a very respectable distance and leave me plenty of room. And when there's tint? I can't make eye contact and the cars will typically pull up more more closely than I find comfortable, and some will even start to make turns while I'm in the intersection, giving me a split second to react and either stop or jump out of the way. To date I've not been hit, but I'll tell you I feel a lot more comfortable when I can see exactly where the driver is looking and whether or not he's seen me. This also follows for when I'm driving. I was at a four-way stop once, and I had the right of way. The guy looked at me, and gave me a quick wave; reassured me to know that I wasn't going to get broadsided...which has nearly happened before even when I had the right of way. You think it's stylish? Great. Go ahead. Do it. I hope you get fined as well as a Notice and Order. |

I make eye contact all the time for drivers. If I see that they're looking the other way when approaching a stop sign, I prepare to brake until they've looked in my direction. There are times when sun and tree reflection make it impossible to see a driver even without tint. |
Well 70% VLT would essentially mean you can't tint at all for most vehicles because the window itself is tinted 70% to begin with. |
"...but had to limit his speeding tickets to no more than 30% of his overall enforcement efforts." Isn't that kind of the opposite of a quota? |
