Geocaching

Anyone into it?

Been looking for a decent map app on android. Tried out a couple so far but I'm wondering what you guys use.

If you use a standalone gps device, any recommendations for a decent one?

Done it a little bit. Kinda like it. I use Locus Pro on Android for GPS nav and logging, and it has a plugin for geocaching that can download local caches direct from geocaching.com

Actually just read that in your other thread. Going to give Locus Pro a whirl, thanks!

C:Geo is one of the better free apps out there. If you're more serious about caching, Cachesense is probably the best geocaching app by far. Been using it on my blackberry for a year and it's great. A tad pricey, but we'll worth it if you're interested in geocaching

thanks for posting tos'd :D

for a standalone gps the garmin 60 series is hard to beat. it comes with basic topos but you should load the ibyscus topos onto the sd card as well as they provide alot more detail. if you're venturing into back country geo-caches, the backroads mapbook is available for gps devices and is wonderful as it has trails and roads that lead off the beaten path.

keep us posted and maybe post a review of the software you choose to use :D

GeoCaching

Anybody into Geo Caching? If you don't know what it is you can check out info on it here.

Lots of fun for spending time with the family or with a few buds as there are caches everywhere, including back and logging roads.

Took my wife and kids out and walked around our place following our gps for a few hours tonight. Found 3 caches, and the kids traded some loot. It was something I had heard about and decided it was a great night to go for a little trek instead of everyone sitting infront of the tv or ps3.

They loved it and we will be doing more soon.

I downloaded the actual geocaching app and it seems to do pretty good. Found 3 of them tonight with the wife, kids and pooch.

Nice to get out and about with them instead of staring that that big box in the corner all night.

Took the kids out again tonight and found 4 more caches around Abby. Starting to have to travel a bit farther from home to find them now. lol...

any up on sumas?

Matties 06-28-2013 04:49 PM

I believe there are. Havent gone that far yet.... Want to take the kids on a hike for them this weekend looking for some more.... Thought about leaving town to go camping, but don't want to spend an extra 4 hours getting just to Hope... Figure I have 3 weeks of holidays without our 1-2 week Christmas shutdown, so its easier to just book a Friday or Monday off on another weekend.

T4RAWR 06-28-2013 05:42 PM

from what i've heard you can camp on sumas.

not sure if its officially permitted but theres enough clear cut out there to get lost in and setup a small camp.

:)

I've bow hunted on Sumas and hiked around up there a few times.... used to drive up to the viewpoint in my old 1980 Malibu coupe when I was a teenager.. great makeout point.. no one to interrupt you but the park ranger... (true story lol )

Almost got locked in one night... good times. haha
Think I found a geocache that night though ;)

Matties 06-28-2013 09:50 PM

Chilliwack Valley though.. that's a good camping area
Lots of nice little lakes up there

Hey, did you hear about the time the drummer locked his keys in his car? Took him almost two hours to get the bass player out... :lawl:
