Even just genetics there are myriads of reasons, genes need to be activated etc. Also there is the new field of the bacterial flora in one's gut that also plays a role, so antibiotic use which kills all the gut bacteria, tends to cause obesity...
It is not as simple as "just" genetics.
No, it's not. Some people have predispositions to weight gain for a wide variety of reasons.
What does that mean? That means they need to take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for those reasons and HOW THEY DEAL WITH THEM. Just saying, "oh, it's in my genes, I can't help being fat, so I'm just going to eat whateverthehell I want" is a cop-out and doesn't help anyone.
It's like if you're allergic to bees, you stay the fuck away from bees and carry an epi-pen... if you know your body doesn't process some foods properly, then you avoid those foods. Not too difficult.

No way, dude. It is was more expensive to eat McDonalds on a daily basis. This isn't a money problem, it is a laziness issue. This is my biggest annoyance.
YES, it is more expensive to eat organic, some exotic fruits, or out of season produce, but you can't tell me feeding 5 kids mcdonalds nightly is a better deal.
Saving money and feeding a family on a budget takes HARD WORK and planning. Pre-cooking meals, freezing food, buying bulk, buy chickens with bone and having to de-bone them, etc.
I grew up on a budget and to save money, my family would can and jar produce to save money. We ate left-overs, never wasted food, and ate basic nutritious dinner and nothing exotic, etc.
I hear people say pop is cheaper than juice (which, lets face it, isn't any better), but do you know what is free? water. If people have problems affording healthy food, try the food bank.
I don't like this issue being labelled as a disease. It removes any ownership in the problem. Also, are people going to start going on disability? Are my tax dollars going to pay for someone to sit home and eat?
That's the issue, the work involved
I've worked with a few guys who make shitty wages and have 3+ kids, after working a shitty job coming home to a house full of kids screaming its easier to make ramen noodles and pickup McDonald's than debone a chicken
It's like anything, wealthy people on average are way healthier essentially because they are wealthy Posted via RS Mobile

That's the other issue, idiots having 3+ kids when they can barely afford to feed themselves.
It's really a burden on society in the long run. These kids will grow up neglected and poorly disciplined resulting in more douches and cunts in society.
The system subsidizes unhealthy food which will reach the poor and lower classes, specially the ones on food stamps... and in turn will result in the pooling of the families monies to temporarily save them from health complications and further bankrupt assets/inheritance. These condition also feed the menial work force, a volunteer soldier force, and the elimination of seniors on the economy.
If we wanted to start with the basics, the flawed food pyramid which encourages too much wheat, meat and dairy should go.
This will be the only "thanks" you'll ever get from me
It should be a mental disease if anything.. they don't eat all that food and do nothing with their lives because they're hungry. It's because thats how they deal with their problems. Do you see happy fat people? Cause I certainly don't (and by fat i mean some 400 pound behemoth).

You know it's cheaper, more convienient, and tastier, for me to get two value burgers at mcdonalds... than it would be for me to cook a meal of equal amount of carbs and protein.
It's not just a bad habit, it's money saving too. that's a big problem in my books. but... i like mcdonalds. so i... indulge.

the culture in america and how everything is made with chemicals and corn and eating unhealthy is cheaper than eating healthy has led to a fatass epidemic
its extremely difficult for them to cure themselves due to the changes in the body with metabolism, psychology, etc etc
i dont know if this move will help since the culture and food issue will remain the same but at least it seems that they're finally trying
i used to weigh a shitload myself, as some of you may know, and it a long difficult process to make the switch and its easy to fall back into that lazyness; i never at crap or a lot of it either mind you i was just sedentary i imagine it would be far more difficult for someone used to eating bad food
"Its not a disease dad, you just need to stop drinking so much."
What the hell has this world come to? Will obese people now be eligible for handicapped parking spots now? (That would reduce the amount of door dings though to be honest.)

as i understand it they always were eligible for handicap signs
Its not cheaper to eat at fast food joints then it is to eat healthy sensible foods cooked at home. I can feed my family of three (four but ones a baby) a good solid healthy complete dinner for under $15. Fast food is an addiction and most people addicted to it and its convenience are only interested in justifying that choice and not really that interested in tryin or figuring out something else.

im talking about the states where a 20pc nuggets is what like $3? and mcdonalds is considered pricey for their crap food but i agree with you as well like i said its the culture to be wasteful and shovel shit down their throats and laziness they find it easier to order out or go through the drive thru than to make a meal the point is though its a huge problem thats growing in the states and they need to figure out how to curb it and you cant just depend on the obese to make the switch themselves since its found that the bad foods can be addictive (sugar http://www.nydailynews.com/life-styl...icle-1.1054419)

Yeah, $5-$7 and you are in and out in under 20 minutes.
I worked with this woman who was overweight. She was talking one day about how her body just didn't agree with vegetables.
Dude. It's because vegetables are a foreign object in your system.
I think we need to be able to have an honest conversation on this subject. We can't "blame" McDonalds and the like and make them the enemy. There is plenty of blame to go around.

While I lean towards liberal political belief, I think schools need to make life skills mandatory for graduation. Like cooking, basic use of a sewing machine etc.
I volunteer for a few groups in the DTES, most people who rely on McDs etc, not so much because they want to; but they don't know any better AND they don't have any cooking skills, much less shopping skills. That's not just single people but parents etc and it cascades out of control really really quickly. Because kids mimic parents etc.
You can make healthy pasta sauce with tons of veg and meat to last you a whole month for under $20. People just need to be educated, too bad we are giving way too many freedoms on courses these days.
