Passport Strike?

I'm looking to renew my passport within the next few days but my friend says there's a strike going on? I checked on their site and nothing is showing ... does anyone know anything about this?

7seven 07-17-2013 09:48 AM

It's the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers union that is striking. Won't affect your passport renew, only affecting vistors and visa applicants. Processing times: Temporary Residence

You can't call in and ask...? But I'm sure their site > your friend lol but since I haven't heard anything I'd say there's nothing going on

I have a "friend" that works at the passport office and you won't have an issue at all.

falcon 07-17-2013 10:13 AM

I renewed last Friday and had no issues. They said I'll have it by the 26th.

Nlkko 07-17-2013 01:29 PM

They've been striking for a while. The processing time was accurate in my case. Most likely won't be an issue.

Passed by the richmond location, didnt see any strikes. In fact, spotted ppl outside looking at their passport and paperworks.

Hope that helps

Damn last post was hard to read :P, it's all good in the passport office... PS if you want your passport renewed really quick you have to tell them that you will be leaving the country in few days and u need your passport ASAP. Otherwise its a 2/3 week wait, if that.

No Strike, I'm sure lol

Please don't do this unless you really need to
you can request express service but that will cost you more
you can request urgent service (can be as quick as within a couple of hours), as long as you can prove you have the need to travel immediately (I've seen letters from hospitals, airplane tickets etc...). Of course this will mean you have to pay more. Also, if you want the "day of" service go to the downtown or Surrey offices.

As a sidenote, passports are valid for 10 years now.

XplicitLuder 07-17-2013 05:07 PM

mines only 5 before i gotta renew again ... its 10 now? dammit shoulda waited couple months lol

deuel_1 07-17-2013 06:32 PM

You have a choice between 5 and 10 years 120.00 for 5 and 160.00 for 10 according to the website.

How long are the wait times usually? I'm thinking of going right at 730am at the Sinclair office.

i'm going back to my experience from a couple years ago.
730 is generally alright, least wait of course.
However, if you don't want to wake up that earlier, 12 o clock or so looked generally OK as well. Again, this was a couple years ago.

Wait, shit, not to threadjack, but what does the office that went on strike do?

I have a friend who applied to renew her visitor visa online...today. I think her visa expires in the middle of August.

Is she fucked?

I went on the 3rd of July to get mine and it was a 2 hour wait until I was out the door and finished. The previous day was a 4 hour wait probably due to it being a long weekend). I would expect to spend at least an hour and a half there first thing in the morning. Everyone seems to try to go before work.

Okami 07-19-2013 01:50 AM

I went today around 11am for a renewal. Was in and out in like 20 minutes.
