| Passport Strike?
I'm looking to renew my passport within the next few days but my friend says there's a strike going on? I checked on their site and nothing is showing ... does anyone know anything about this?

It's the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers union that is striking. Won't affect your passport renew, only affecting vistors and visa applicants. Processing times: Temporary Residence |

You can't call in and ask...? But I'm sure their site > your friend lol but since I haven't heard anything I'd say there's nothing going on Posted via RS Mobile |

I have a "friend" that works at the passport office and you won't have an issue at all.

I renewed last Friday and had no issues. They said I'll have it by the 26th.

They've been striking for a while. The processing time was accurate in my case. Most likely won't be an issue.

Damn last post was hard to read :P, it's all good in the passport office... PS if you want your passport renewed really quick you have to tell them that you will be leaving the country in few days and u need your passport ASAP. Otherwise its a 2/3 week wait, if that.

you can request express service but that will cost you more
you can request urgent service (can be as quick as within a couple of hours), as long as you can prove you have the need to travel immediately (I've seen letters from hospitals, airplane tickets etc...). Of course this will mean you have to pay more. Also, if you want the "day of" service go to the downtown or Surrey offices.
As a sidenote, passports are valid for 10 years now.

How long are the wait times usually? I'm thinking of going right at 730am at the Sinclair office.

730 is generally alright, least wait of course.
However, if you don't want to wake up that earlier, 12 o clock or so looked generally OK as well. Again, this was a couple years ago.

Wait, shit, not to threadjack, but what does the office that went on strike do?
I have a friend who applied to renew her visitor visa online...today. I think her visa expires in the middle of August.
Is she fucked?

The previous day was a 4 hour wait probably due to it being a long weekend). I would expect to spend at least an hour and a half there first thing in the morning. Everyone seems to try to go before work.
