Installing a back up cam.

Hey, so I am looking to get a back up camera installed in my 2010 tsx non tech edition. For some reason I have no idea how long my rear is, I've never hit anything but I'm planning on lowering and adding a sport rear bumper and rather not risk scraping it.

I am interested in trying to install the OEM back up camera and connect it to a aftermarket screen if its possible. I wouldn't mine a aftermarket camera as long as its not too bulky.

I figured this route might be cheaper than trying to get a dash kit and put in a new double din with rear cam.

Ebay. Although I didnt buy the monitor, I bought the camera off ebay and its pretty clear...also has night vision too! Just need to spray a few coats of clear coat on it to ensure that it's sealed and you're good to go.

Not sure if you can see. ..but on the top right corner of my license plate is the camera. Not bulky at all

I have installed several backup cameras in several different vehicles and hooked them up to a rear view lcd mirror. If your vehicle has a self dimming rear view mirror, that is about the only feature you would lose.
I've found the led on the oem style camera's for honda/acura tend to be on the dim side. Generally the camera will replace one of the license place lights.

Here is a example from my dad's old CRV

The light was very dim. I even added aluminum tape in the area to act as a reflector and it didn't help much.

A better alternative is to get a small camera, and run the wire through or behind the license plate light. This is exactly what I ended up doing in my dad's CRV afterwards, another Honda van, and the wife's CSX.

I cut the wire about a few inches from the camera and ran it through the hole I drilled in the light, and reconnected it. I have not had any problems with this approach.

Here are the back mirror w/ lcd that I'm talking about

The last one I used in my 300c also had built in bluetooth and caller id showed up on the screen, and was quite visible in the daylight.

Good luck

Any recommendations of which camera to get? Or just any ebay one?

I have a cheap chinese dvd touch screen head unit. It is capable of having a back up camera plugged in.

We sell a ton of different cameras and screens. We have a very nice oem style mirror that we have been installing at the Kia dealerships and they have been extremely popular and nicely priced. You whould come down and take a look!

I got my Pioneer rearview cam from Soundsgood. Made in Japan goodness. I used to have all kinds of cheap crap before, including Alpine. Anyway, the Pioneer is by far the best in terms of reliability, clarity, size, and ease of installation. I have them on both my cars and they have never let me down. One of them I've had for three, maybe four years. No need to do anything. They are totally designed for anyhting mother nature throws at it. BTW, if you have to seal something, you know it's cheap.

I've wasted so much time and money on cheap shit. Gotta do it right and get quality stuff.

How's that for waving the Pioneer flag? And I'm not even a Pioneer fan boi.

Just to add to it, I have a backup cam installed on my truck. So convenient. When I back up to hitch the trailer, it's a snap. People are amazed I can get my ball to within half an inch of the coupler, until I tell them I have a backup cam. I have the backup cam on all the time, so I can monitor the connections while towing.

When I back up the truck, I scare the shit out of people, because I can back up ever so close to the vehicle behind me without my ball actually hitting it, LOL
