I also believe that truck was a TELUS contractor...

legit TELUS trucks have decals all over ie the critters. Contractors have a small decal stating TELUS

I guess this is a good opportunity to relate my experience as I was involved in a pedestrian accident in Richmond.

I was leaving Cactus club Richmond in October 2010 heading east on Lansdowne Rd. It was dark out and had just started to rain. I was approaching the intersection of Cooney & Lansdowne (in front of Zellers) in the slow lane. A car was stopped at the light in the left lane waiting to go straight. The light turned green and he started to go as I was coming up to the intersection.

As I approached the intersection to my horror there was a woman still crossing the street. She had just crossed the car in the left lane as he started to go. She wasn't even looking up as I came up to the intersection. I slammed on my brakes and dodged to my right but still clipped her with my left mirror.

I stopped immediately and called 911. Checked on her and she was clutching her ankle. Ran into the Chinese restaurant in the plaza at that corner and grabbed ice.

She was a mainland chinese woman wearing all black. I still remember the situation very vividly. I felt a lot of guilt, yet a lot of anger.

Inevitably, she broke her ankle as a result of how she fell. She tried to sue ICBC but I was found not at fault.

Fortunately, in my case both the driver following behind me and the person turning left on the opposite side vouched for me. The left-turn witness in particular was most helpful as he indicated that she stepped into the intersection when the walk sign was red. Furthermore, he indicated she showed no sense of urgency as she crossed, walking slowly while looking straight down at the ground unaware of her surroundings.

With all that being said, I drive in Richmond almost everyday. And I find that it is far less dangerous for pedestrian activity than driving downtown. And not just DT Eastside, but also the shopping areas like Robson where people think it's only a few feet to the other side to just cross over.

tbh i dont really know who i feel worse about, the driver of the accident or the victim, it might sounds stupid because obviously the victim is no longer here.. but the driver now has to relive this incident for the rest of his life all because someone was negligent..

and to add above. I FUCKING HATE DRIVING DT! people dont pay attention to anything, cross when they want and when hey are crossing they take their sweet fcking time.. even when im walking around i shoulder check i let cars past and i make sure that i only cross when its safe/ make sure im waved in to cross by the drivers.

ps if you want someone to move thats illegally crossing bring your revs up a bit and chirp your tires.. people move quick!

Drive downtown daily and I see these things too often....

When I do end up parking my car and walk to work I noticed that a lot of people just start crossing once the light turns yellow/just red. I don't move off the sidewalk until I look both ways and the little green man is telling me to go. People must just be in more of a rush then me.....

Be careful out there people.

I remember ranting to a coworker about pedestrians in DT.

Pedestrians are in their own little world in downtown. You want to rant about jaywalking? How about crosswalks? Sure, they have right of way when the signal permits them to cross at crosswalks, but do they really have to walk at a snail's pace? You may not be in a hurry, but I am. We clearly make eye contact, and you see clearly see me waiting for you to move so that I can turn, so why can't you show some courtesy and walk a little bit faster?

What, because pedestrians have right of way, all the traffic waiting in one lane has to wait for your dumbass to move?

Oh, and if you are crossing the street, please don't look at your phone the whole time. At least take SOME accountability, and pay attention to the traffic around you. After all, it's YOUR life to look after. Don't put YOUR life completely in MY hands. I'll honestly do my best to avoid hitting you, but you need to do your part too! So if I hit you, you die, and your family hates my guts - do you think i'll just shrug that shit off and go get ice cream? No. My life is forever affected too, just like the lives of your friends/family.

I used to drive all over DT daily, for 3 years, so this isn't some misguided rant. This is an informed opinion based on hundreds of hours of experience driving in that shit hole.

I've been saying since day one they should ticket pedestrians on phones at crosswalks.

Jaywalking has always been a problem and always will be until cops really roll out and start enforcing it. Once the word gets around that people are getting fined for jaywalking on a regular basis, I'm sure people will start using proper crosswalks and paying more attention, instead of risking getting fined almost 100 dollars.

I also make pedestrian videos in addition to bad driver videos, and I get a lot of hate for these. But even though some of these don't look all that bad, you never know where a car may come out and hit you.

It's a conspiracy!!! TELUS has their mind set on teaching j walkers a lesson or two!!!

As opposed to the oblivious phone-wielding pedestrians in those clips?

I saw some dumb gash straddling the barrier on Highway 10 a few days ago crossing in rush hour traffic.

I watched a lady get hit next to me at a light, the guy was probably going 40kms, she cartwheeled in the air. Such a gross thing to witness, I can imagine the person who hits the pedestrian would have so much guilt even if they're not at fault.

impatient pedestrians that step onto the intersection once the light hits yellow (both before and after green).

I, myself, jaywalk when i'm in a hurry to get somewhere. But I obviously do it when it is COMPLETELY SAFE to do so, and only on smaller streets. I would make eye contact with the driver first, and WAIT for THEM to signal me to walk through before I even step a foot onto the road. Also, I don't understand how people could still be texting while crossing..For fuck sakes, it takes less than 20 seconds to cross a damn street, whether you're walking/running. I'm sure whoever you're texting can wait.

It's common sense/common courtesy. It's a lesson they teach you in kindergarten!

^ agree with the texting. people got along fine without cellphones 20 years ago. don't see how we can't live without using it for a few seconds to cross the street

There is a section where it is a 30km/h zone for the playground/basketball courts.
