First Bday?

Must make a very good impression...

So...........

Dress up and......

Dinner:

$60 to $150 =
Dinner at a fine dining establishment.
Try Hawksworth.
Food and Ambiance is amazing.

$50 to $100 =
Beach House
Food is okay for the price range, but location is romantic.

$60 to $150 =
Bluewater
Food is good and if you want a "noisier" setting, this is the place.

Short trip:
$100 to $150
Harrison Hot Springs =
Dipping in the sulphur springs!
Summer jet skiing (where she'll tell you to slow down while CRADLING your back behind you)
Banana BOAT!!!!!!!!
And, on the way back, go to Chiliwack river rafting which is AWESOME!
Chilliwack River Rafting - Vancouver Region's Best White Water Resort

$100 to $150
Whistler =
Zip lining
Dinner tours (where you visit 4 different restaurants within 2 hours... quite fun!!!! but the company is... tilting towards the old side, but food is great... including a trip to an underground wine cellar at Bearfoot Bistro)

$150 to $300
Victoria =
if she likes to just walk around like a regular tourist...?

----------------------

Bday present to impress:
If you want to tell her you are serious....
Give her a "promise ring"... nothing fancy, below $200 or whatever budget suits you, but tell her it is a promise ring or a "steady" ring, if you really are into her.

Surprise her at the restaurant with the gift (ask one of the servers to put it in a special dessert treat, but make sure she does not eat it)... or if you are the Beach House, take a stroll down Ambleside park and sit down on one of the benches in front of the small lake and give her the present whatever it is.

Flowers of course.

Cheapo $12 dozen roses (short stem) or $46 long stem roses from Ecuador or... $98 long stem with a LOT of decoration to impress (BEFORE the dinner mind you).

Anyway, have fun....... and ENJOY THE MOMENT!

The concept of a promise ring is idiotic; they're a giant neon-sign advertising insecurity, and demonstrate a need to materially convey "trust" to achieve a visible, tangible effect. Skip branding "serious" relationships with mini-engagement rings. Wait until a truly serious relationship develops, and buy a real-engagement ring.

don't raise the bar too high, or else she may be expecting more for the next year.

I would do something simple and local, fancy restaurant, some roses, a build a bear.

and it's too soon for jewelry.

HOLY FU(K!

Seriously what are you smoking/drinking? You suggest a birthday surprise that is at least $475? In the next thread someone will complain about their gf expecting too much. REALLY?! I wonder why?

Maybe you know the OP and he lives at home and mommy and daddy are paying for it all but I can assume two things from his post.....

"first birthday together" = dating less than a year
"we are both young" = probably doesn't have a spare $475 laying around on some chick who he isn't in a long term relationship with.

I am an old lady, not as old as MG1, but old and have been to Whistler, Victoria and Harrison. All three cost more than you have quoted.

Jewelry under $200? Walmart promise ring that the servers are going to surprise the girl with?

So OP if you aren't trying to take the mickey then how about a picnic in the park/beach/mountain, make dinner for her, (both of those include you doing ALL the work), there are the free movies in the parks, Theatre under the Stars, scavenger hunt you set up for her, Drive In in Langley.

would be helpful if you gave your ages and what she likes to do.

If you really do mean she is young and into new stuff try WomynsWare Inc.

For your gift spend some of your time making something or at least part of the gift. This way you can save money and it shows that you're not just any moron who only knows how to use a credit card.

I'm sorry, did you not get the response you wanted the first time you posted this suggestion?

Do you need someone to acknowledge you?

If so, I acknowledge you and your obvious and un-funny suggestion. Twice.

Maybe third time's a charm?

I, personally, would encourage a picnic on the beach.

Crescent Beach is easily accessible from Vancouver, but more importantly, often deserted, so you'd be able to enjoy one another's company with moderate privacy. Crescent's particularly quiet on the east, clothing optional, side. A picnic should not be fine dining, go simple. A salad and well-made sandwiches (ie. not wonder bread). Alcohol's always a worthy inclusion, but do not attempt to be romantic and bring an entire bottle of wine. Watch the sunset and talk. Cliche, but when you're in a semi-remote spot that overlooks much of the Fraser Delta it's worthwhile.

I like the sex toy suggestion, but Van, ensure you only consider buying good quality; cheap sex toys are prone to breaking.

Thanks to all of you who actually took the time to add useful suggestions, I really like them. Just for clarification we are in our early 20's and this is a very serious relationship and I see myself with her for rest of my life.
