Been going every year since, forever I guess.

- Went on Sunday, weather early in the day looked sketchy so may have caused lots of people to stay away. I took my chances in the afternoon and went at 300pm. By 330 the sun was out in full force.

- It was the least people I've seen in, never. The only time I've seen less people I guess would be at like 12 midnight, no joke, it was dead.

- Genghis Khan lineup was so horribly organized it was silly. I bought tickets at the front gate thinking I was good. Wrong, there was a sign at the exhibit stating "line starts here" or something. I see other people standing there with nobody in sight. We looked at each other confused and as other people showed up behind us, same reaction. So i walked up to the front door to ask wtf? They said the line is actually not actually where the sign says it is and I couldn't go in yet because I had to redeem the tickets I bought for actual hard copy tickets. Another line up peruses.

Now was it worth it? IMO it wasn't, but not because I had no interest in Khan but I already knew most of the info they showed. Also I've been to Beijing and seen the relics of old weapons, cups, jewelry etc and it wasn't any different. Just my 2 cents though.

- Tried the 3 burger sampler and had Kangaroo, Crocodile, and Camel. Horrible! Bun was straight out of the bag, not warm or toasted. No sauce (you can add ketchup and mustard your self), meat was barely even warm, been sitting around for god knows how long and dry as hell.

- Market Place, same stuff

Will however still likely go once more since I still have 2 free tix though.

I saved my money and ate very little at the Fair. However, afterwards, the family and I went to On Lok and feasted on half the money we would have spent at the Fair.

The PNE back in the heydays, had multiple buildings with tonnes of things to see and do. My favourite place were the buildings that housed the BC Hall of Fame and the Home Show. The buildings also housed that huge-ass relief map of BC. The buildings also had displays of various winners of competitions - best home made jams, hobbies, etc. There were feebies to be had. Spin the wheel for prizes, offered by local businesses. It was truly a county fair type of event.

Sad they had to tear down the buildings for freakin' green space. You'd think the City of Vancouver was short on park land or something, LOL. Yeah, yeah, yeah.... bike lanes and gathering places for fricken hippies. In fact, what BS....... I drove through Stanley Park the other day to see what the place has turned into. Saw my favourite picnic area, the patch of grassed area just east of second beach. There's supposed to be a natural creek there that runs into, or perhaps away from, Lost Lagoon. That area is now a jungle overrun/choked by creeping ivy and crap vegetation. I couldn't even see the nice, Japanese style wooden bridge that crosses the creek. If the City of Vancouver cared about the green spaces around the city, you'd figure they'd keep the place looking decent for people to enjoy.

Family picnics........... wow, what a concept! /rant

Reading these threads just makes me remember the earlier days of the fair, early 2000s, my first job making those mini-donuts, the wooden rollercoaster, I haven't been to the fair maybe since '05.

Sounds like the charm is wearing thin with smaller and smaller crowds..

With all this talk about low attendance this year and the numbers getting smaller and smaller, makes me think if the PNE will still be around 10-15yrs from now.

It'll be all green space........... then the hippies will realize, "What a great place to hold protests and rallies".... then the place will turn into shit space......... wait...... the homeless when they get pushed out of the DTES will have somewhere to go!

The city will probably sell the land to some developer.

Me and Le GF went last night, I thought it was pretty busy but she shared the same sentiment that it was very dead and she's from east van and has been going for the past like 20 years

A bit off-topic, but I remember checking out a display that the city had about the future of Hasting Park outside of Laughing Bean Coffee on Slocan and Hastings. There was this older lady who went on to one of the City workers about how the noise in the area prevented her from thinking on her nature walks. I laughed a bit inside because the PNE has been there for a long time, certainly much longer than she has lived in the area.

Hastings-Sunrise used to be an immigrant community (Italians, Portuguese, and the Chinese), but now the "East Village" is being raided by faux progressives from the west side of town who probably couldn't pay their rising property taxes in the west side (after all, they probably don't make much money in their day jobs if they're thinking about taking nature walks). It's kind of sad because I used to spend quite a bit of time in the area as a youngster and I even worked in the area for many years in my university days.

Free admission again this Tuesday Aug 27th from 11-1 to compensate for the power outage suffered on Saturday. (Don't understand how it helps people that already went)

Went on free opening day.

Peking Acrobats were AWESOME.

Family Feud live was hilarious, but the Fast Money round was soured by some drunks at the front who called out answers after the host ASKED them not to. Scumbags.

Got the deep fried Oreos (4/$5) but my main meal was at Burger King a block away. Chicken sandwich, fries, drink and 2 apple pies for less than $8, you won't find a better value so close to the fair unless you pack your own lunch.

Genghis Khan was fascinating, and I'm glad I stood through the half hour line. As someone who hasn't been exposed to a lot of artifacts I was a bit wide-eyed.

There's the same casino crap in Playland, but no more arcade Back in the 90s they had Game Boy and Super NES games. I miss that.

^ yeah, I hate douchebags who do that kind of stuff. They spoil it for everybody else. They can't see past their own little dicks. Totally selfish and inconsiderate of others. Losers in life, plain and simple. If I were the host, I'd stop the contest, talk to the contestants, perhaps offer them some cool prizes and wait for the lowlifes to leave. /rant

Should have called Sam. BTW, is he working at the PNE this year?

Just went on Sunday and the 2 shows you must check out is the Peking Acrobat and Family Feud Show. Don't forget the elephant ears and deep fried pickles are awesome.

went on Sunday, still fun after this year being identical to last year. Always fun to see the acrobats and I love the BBQ pit. LIGHTS was pretty decent as well.

Even if numbers dip, its just one of those family events thats enjoyable for all ages.

Duelling Pianos was fun at the Beer Pit

I'm more surprised that the operators refunded $600 back to the guy. That was too kind.
