where do you buy your dress shirts?

as per the title, where do you usually buy your dress shirts locally?

I find the best fitting ones for me are from G2000 (store in Hong Kong), and am having a hard time finding good fitting ones here! (anybody else have the asian-build problem)?

the best substitute I've found so far is kenneth cole reaction slim fit, but they don't fit as well as G2000

Banana Republic is a go to for most people in Vancouver - decent fabrics (Monogram line anyway) and cheap prices if you catch them during double markdowns. You just have to bite the bullet and get the shirts tapered at your local alterations place.

I know this isn't local but may I suggest ordering from Kamakura Shirts Official Website |Kamakura Shirts Official Website ? they're based in NY, japanese fabrics/made in japan and japanese(asian) sizing unless you opt for the New York Cut

Express has some well-fitting shirts at decent quality. H&M as well but lower quality.

Banana Republic Slim Fit has better materials but still requires tailoring for better fit; buy it on clearance and spend $10 or so to get the torso taken in and still end up with a good shirt at a decent price.

Last time I was at Calvin Klein they had all their slim fit dress shirts on for $19.99.

My brother and dad have the Asian build and they buy all their stuff from club Monaco. If you're a student you get..20%? Off as well.

I buy mine from Hudson Bay. Love the variety of stuff they have.

You can get shirts tapered? I always wondered how other people's dress shirts fit so nicely while on me they look tight on the shoulders but too wide on my waist.

Yes you can. Get ones that fit well in shoulders and arms, then just have the torso taken in. Make sure it's not super baggy to begin with or else proportions may look off.

define asian build? The Bay, MEXX (slim-fit line), Le Chateau are all good places with decent price.

I think he/she means to say they're pinner, like most Asian guys.

cdizzle 09-20-2013 09:47 PM

thanks for all the suggestions!
i'll give club monaco and calvin klein a try

+1 especially when they have sales on. I find most shirts from cheaper places (H&M, and even Zara and Express sometimes) that the material from their shirt gets wrinkle way too easily......

Ordered a bunch from Charles Tyrwhitt. I'll update you guys on how they are. Based on SF reviews, they seem pretty good for the price.

I think being pinner is who this stuff is made for. If your body had any sort of V taper, then shirts don't fit. Fit's in the shoulders, and a bloody ballon around the waist. I really liked MEXX Extra Slim, but they don't seem to sell that fit anymore. Same goes for T's.

I buy from Banana Republic with 40% off days and coupons
Also from Express in PC or Richmond center during their 40% event
Sometimes from Zara.

Le Chateau does not have good fits imo.

best bet is to go to marshalls or ross in the states... get designer dress shirts for under 20 bucks. get the neck/shoulder/arm length that is right, and get it tailored. Depending on whether you need the arms to be slimmed as well, you will be looking at 10-20 bucks for tailoring. so thats 30-40 bucks total for a great fitting, CK/Hilfiger etc dress shirt.
