Good detector, basically a 9500i without GPS. Where did you find it? I'm interested but I didn't see it on the website.

When I see refurb I worry about warranty...or lack thereof.
Also, if anybody wants a detector that will actually work on BC roads, you need at least a 9500. A shifter will give you best results though. Joo gotta pay to play!

Why the 9500 vs 8500? I thought from reading online that the performance is similar?

Historically Escort has been good for support, so I wouldn't be too worried about warranty.

Manic, that's the Future shop on the island?

yep It's the FS in Nanaimo.

I was talking to a tobacco rep that comes to our store and somehow we got to taking about radar detectors. He told me a few weeks back he was in Alberta helping test a new system. No matter what speed you are going the radar gun will only read 80 KM. the company has been working on the system for 4 years and may get to test it in a month or so. I bet it's not going to be cheap.

^from what i understand that kind of tech has been around for quite a while, there was a bunch of talk about an affordable unit 3 or 4 years ago. but it illegal as it actively tampers with the RCMP device so if you get pulled over with it, youre fucked. where as a detector simply alerts you to their presence and is therefor legal (in BC at least).

Laser Jammer of some sort
We are allowed to use them,as long as they have park assist mode.

Futureshop has them for $199 with 6 months manufacturers warranty.
I have one they are great for detecting radar.

Escort laser shifters are useless, You need to get a system like Laser interceptor. They are legal to own, but illegal to use here.

As for the radar jammers, those are illegal.
