LONG term pet boarding

I've a friend who's had to go to Ireland a few months ago, so for the time being her dog (maddy - Australian shepherd) was staying with her friend. But...turns out her landlord did a 180 and said fuck you and doesn't want the dog staying in there anymore.

my friend wont be back for at least 14-16 months, and she doesn't want to sell the dog or give it to the spca since it'll probably be put to sleep since shes around 14 years old.

making this post on her behalf, so is anyone or does anyone know someone who'd be willing to take in a dog for a few months? even if its only 3-4 months that's fine, it'll give her more time to figure out where maddy can stay next.

Let me ask my wife. I had an Aussie and I love the breed. Are the shots up top date?

If it was like 2 or 3 months I would help, but 12-14 months.. I cant say I won't grow attached to the dog and be sad if it leaves my side.

I'm still waiting to hear back from my wife (I am traveling for business right now). Seeing as how she is the one at home every day and managing two kids and a dog already, I need her head nod to make this happen.

Guess what? I have my wife's blessing - providing I can get a couple answers to her few concerns.

1) Again we have young children and they do young boys things with my 9 year old doberman/hound cross. Such as: poke her eyes and butt, lift her tail, sometimes climb on/over/around, definitely will get covered in a blanket and be from the Dark Side. So - will Maddy bite my children? If she will, I cannot bring her into my house. Sorry.

2) Does Maddy require some kind of special and expensive diet or expensive medications? I have one paycheque and 4 mouths to feed, plus a dog and cat already; the budget is tight. I recently wanted to adopt another older dog in a similar situation but it needed $400 per month for pain medications, and that is money I simply do not have at this time.

3) Will the owner write something that releases us from any possible health or Lord forbid death of Maddy? We want to extend our family to help, not to get hurt.

4) If the owner returns and does not want Maddy back for whatever reasons, that is okay. We will take care of her for the remainder of her time on this planet.

Attached is a picture on just another day of my dog, Stella, who was Darth Maul according to my 3 year old son.

wow, id thank you 100 times if rs would let me

maddy gets along with kids she says, she currently lives with someone who has 3 kids, and was around friends step son from age 1 - 4 and nothing has ever happened.

special diet, not really, shes an older dog so my friend said she just gives her the basic old age dog formula food, but she said she'd be willing to help and send you money for food when she can.

as for the dogs health, she said she knows maddys old, and if a vet bill were to come up that would be useless (aka hip replacement etc) then she would just put the dog down, and if maddy dies of natural causes, she'd be sad, but she knows maddy wont be around forever. maddy comes with her kennel, dog beds, clippers, brushes etc.

ill pm you her contact info, aka her facebook account, if you don't have facebook she can Skype you whenever possible, she has a +8 hour time difference.

ps - says you live in squamish, she says maddy is usually an indoors dog, and shes quite smart/crafty, if shes left outside on her own for long periods of time, she will find a way out

Sweet! I know all about Aussies being crafty - I taught my last one to open door knobs and that was a huge mistake. My current dog is 9 and prefers to be inside a lot as well. Though we do get out for lots of walks with the kids, so Maddy will have a good life at chez Zed's.

Briefly messaged with the owner today, planning on a call tomorrow. Getting excited to have another dog's love around the house. If people loved one another like a dog does to their owners, it would be a better world I tell ya.

I'm hoping we can get all the details sorted out soon, will update when we get her home.

In some cases, it would be enough if people loved their own dogs as much as the dogs loved them

Next time I drive through squamish, I'm sending you a pm Zed, and bringing you a 6 pack, and 2 bully sticks for the dogs. You are the man.

Been talking to the owner and we are aiming at some time next week for us to receive Maddy to her new home. I'm feeling like a kid counting the days to my birthday.

We just had Maddy show up! She is busy sniffing all over and trying to figure out the move, so we're going to take her for a nice walk. Our kids are super excited, as am I. My wife is to be determined. lol.

Trying to get a pic on my slow phone, but she won't stop moving!

Okay, she is finally tired of pacing around and sniffing everything. Managed to get a non-blurry pic.
