2004+ Suzuki GSXR Recall (600,750,1000)

Quote:
Suzuki is recalling 2004-2013 GSX-R600 and GSX-R750 sportbikes as well as GSX-R1000 models from 2005-2013 because of a problem with their front brake master cylinders.

As of publication, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not officially announced any recalls because of the federal government work stoppage, but notices have been sent out to dealerships across the U.S. Meanwhile, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission has posted a recall, and we expect to see further news to come from other markets.

According to the ACCC, corrosion may develop between the brake piston and return spring due to a lack of adequate surface treatment. The corrosion may increase the acidity of the brake fluid, generating a gas which could affect front brake lever control. In such a situation, the lever may develop a spongy feeling along with reduced front brake performance.
A general manager of a Suzuki dealership in Lawton, Okla., posted a copy of the notice on the Gixxer.com forum corroborating the information in the Australian recall. According to the notice, servicing information will be released in a technical service bulletin the week of Oct. 28. Dealers are expected to have the necessary parts to replace the master cylinders on affected units by Nov. 4.

It’s not clear at this time how many units are affected, but judging from the number of model years included, we expect the figure will be high.

So has anyone been contacted by the dealers yet?

so i'll do the same next week cause I bought my bike from a Honda dealer so not sure if they'd get in contact with me or if Suzuki Canada would.

Has anyone contacted any dealers regarding the recall?

Which shops are my fellow GSXR owners bringing in their bikes for this recall?

Cheers

Anyone have a shop you guys called to take it in? Gonna take it in as soon as the weather gets better.

I really want to avoid Modern, and if it doesnt have to be a Suzuki dealer then I want to avoid Bayside.

Let me know, everywhere I got recommendations for are closed; North Shore Suzuki, BOMAX....

Motorcycle World in Surrey on King George hwy.

Brought my bike in before the new year, it was quick. Dropped off and picked up in roughly half hour.

^^ Holeshot? (if it's not too far for you)

That's probably where I'll take it once the weather improves and I put riding insurance on it

I took mine to Motorcycle World last month. Nothing but great service from their end. Unsure if other dealers do this, but they also offered a complimentary inspection and advised me of anything my bike needed.

I went to holeshot, took less than an hour and they too did a quick lookover the bike and told me the oil level was a bit over the limit.
