I'm using the Asus N56U, its very fast. But not sure how much it is now, it should be a lot cheaper than when I brought it.

If you go down to the best buy in the states, you can save like $50. That's what I did. Picked up the netgear wndr4500 for less than $150. It's over 200 here. Netgear's not bad - the one I got tripled my download speeds after I put the shaw router into bridge mode. Posted via RS Mobile |

I would get something with wireless AC..
LINKSYS EA6500 HD Video Pro AC1750 SMART Wi-Fi Router $119.99 NOTE - Refurbished The cheapest AC router yet.. ranks 5th on the smallnet builder website, if you don't mind it being refurbished.. otherwise its $179.99 BNIB Router Ranker - Ranking - SmallNetBuilder
Also its only Wireless N and AC only...
I never had any luck with and dlink routers so I don't usually recommend or buy them myself

if you don't know what AC is...it probably doesn't make sense to drop $200 router for it
when i was shopping for a new router few months ago..the guys at SNB forum all recommended buying what you need...AC1900 is basically beta testing while paying a huge premium...which looks even sillier now that draft AC has been finalized and 4X4 AC2300 has been announced
if you need USB 3.0 performance go for the AC56U..same internals as the 68U except its radio is 2X2 instead of 3X3...you can overclock them too AC1900 First Look: NETGEAR R7000 & ASUS RT-AC68U - Storage Performance, Routing Performance - SmallNetBuilder
R7000 is a killer router...again I didnt wanna pay so much for a networking device and asus dev/custom firmware scene is unmatched...if you still with the AC68u go download merlin's build.

well i just setup now and i must say the speed improvement is noticeable over my older Netgear wnr3500L router. I can hit about 85 Mbps down and 5.5 up
I cant seem to access my USB storage through DDNS. something about dual NAT
"This router may be in the multiple-NAT environment and DDNS service cannot work in this environment."
apparently can be fixed by swapping a few lan cables in the router. haven't chekced cuz the kids are sleeping and the router is in their room
goddamn this thing is massive.
EDIT:Shaw reset my modem to Wifi/ Router thus the dual NAT problem. quick call to Shaw CS and they switched it back to Bridged mode, thus eliminating the 2nd Wifi signal and increasing my speeds.

So..I have WRT54G. not on DDS or whatever u call it
I have noo idea on this networking crap, but have had this router for awhile now
Heres my take. Once in awhile, If I'm downloading larger files, it drops and I have to pull the plug on the router..so I think its crapping out. Need a suggestion for a new router thats somewhat future proof?
I have..
2x 2011 macbook pros on it
Sony Smart TV
PS3 hardwired
PS4 wireless
2 Nexus 7s
Connection at home.. Novus 25mbit. Being true fibre optic, it goes from wall to router
Maybe its time to get a new router? suggestions anyone?

I bought a TP Link AC 1750 and had NCIX price match it on sale for $85 last month.
There was some good deals on older refurb Asus routers before Boxing day since they came out with a newer AC68U IIRC.
But if you don't think you have or need an AC router, then the N66 or N68 if you want to spend more will suffice.

sadly the only item i had with Wireless AC was my Nexus 5's. I sold it the day i got the router
didn't get to test it.
pretty cool. i can steam 1080P to my S4 and not need a PC on. Just plug in a USB 3.0 external HDD to the router. instal the Asus app from the play store and away we go.
doesn't seem to work on cellular data tho.
managed to work on my PS3 as well. no more portable drives chucked around by my kids.
EDIT: 3G works, but Wind is too ghetto for HD. lower quality vids should be fine.
