Electric vs Gas Range Looking to replace my aging Electric stove for a Gas Range because it's long overdue, and also because of the 28% rate hike coming next year from BC Hydro. Not sure if replacing my aging stove would have any real cost-savings in the long-term. I tried the BC Hydro appliance calculator, and plugged in some numbers. Even with the rate hike in mind, the cost of running a gas stove still cost significantly more than an electric stove. Not sure if that's true or not, as I've never owned a gas range. For those who have converted from Electric to Natural gas, what are your experiences with cost? Yes I know Gas is way better than Electric. :) |
It also depends on your dwelling.. Some houses will need some replumbling for the gas line to go into the kitchen.. especially if it was built with electric stove in mine. I think the hike is actually 28% over 5 years.. not in one year. Unless you are running a commercial kitchen that has the stove on 16 hours a day.. just doing it by cost difference won't sway you to switch one or the other. If you like gas, just switch to gas. |
