a clear cut case of impersonation/personation - need advice/help
 

i suspect my cousin to have been impersonating me and got me 2 tickets under my name. i have clear cut proof that it should be him. what should i do?

The personations I prosecuted were almost always a family member. You have to have somebody who knows your birth date, address and code word (usually your mother's maiden name). The code word does not appear on anything that arrives in the mail so that rules stolen mail out.

Personation is an indictable offence with 7 years in jail as a penalty, so it is a very serious matter. In the meantime I would not have any further discussions about this with anyone who you suspect as being the driver. Leave that to the Police and don't complicate the matter for court. When you report it officially the MVB will suspend the tickets, pending the outcome of the investigation. If it finds you were not responsible they will cancel them completely. The people at ICBC /Police will advise you of anything else so I suggest you not chat about anything more here on this public forum.

Report the incident to the police. Make sure you have the messages from your phone, and make sure your story is straight. Just lay it out that you think it was your cousin impersonating you, you have messages to back up the claim, and if you can show that you worked until 3:15pm, that'd be even better.

If your cousin is still feeding you bullshit, just ignore him and let him rot for it. If he was any kind of a stand-up guy. Once you told him about this shit, he would've said "Okay I'll pay for the tickets" atleast. Clearly he deserves to rot. :pokerface:

zulu, i believe icbc will find the original police officer who issued the ticket to look into this incident, is it possible that i go to him myself and straighten out the story or wait until he finds me?

mello, i worked at 3:15, not until, thats y there is this this time between the traffic stop and me working, so in "theory" there should be enough time to get pulled over and then get to work since the location of where the traffic stop happened is so close to my work place, re: 15min AT MOST

When I got personation complaints from ICBC it included statements from the victim that included all details about who they thought it was. I then contacted the victim, took further statements & any other details I needed and investigated. I would assume it will be the same for you, unless things have changed.

If you're thinking of not pursuing this for whatever reason, note that this is entirely his fault. Don't feel guilty/bad about turning him in. Dude threw you under the bus and expected to you to pay for it. You shouldn't feel bad when he fucked up and tried to blame it on you.

Suppose you don't contact the Police, and just yell at your asshole cousin and have him pay the tickets.

What happens if 2 months from now he gets a DUI? Just going to take it with a smile? Go to the cops. Your cousin deserves it.

If you have your cousin pay the fines YOU will have the 2 convictions on YOUR driving history, not him. Like others have said here, he deliberately screwed you over so why cut him a break? He didn't give you one and has lied to you about it even after he knows you are being punished for what he did.

Is your cousin a prohibited or unlicenced driver by any chance? I would hate to be the Officer investigating this.

He came for advice and I think that Zulu (the only person that is actually capable of providing useful advice) answered all the questions he had. If he has more, OP could probably post more or PM Zulu directly.

I don't think OP created this thread to prove his story about anything. He came in here with a legitimate concern that hits close to home and was torn about to do.

It's up to the Op whether he wants the Police involved, and in the case of Personation, I would. Family or not, what else is his cousin doing aside from this?

If his cousin was "blood" he shouldn't have screwed over the OP in the first place. His cousin obviously doesn't give two sh*ts about the OP.

No, of course not. I was going to give some advice on certain parts but couldn't. I was just wondering why he deleted the story. Better to delete or close the thread instead.

because my original post was a 2 page essay revealing too much info

basically i have 1 ticket which has 2 violations under my name, i recognize the vehicle written on the ticket and its not mine. every clue i look into points me to a certain person and this person has given me the run around twice when confronted abt it

i sure as hell aint admitting to the tickets, so someone has to admit to it

he has the nerve to give you the run around?
