E60 m5 in the snow

I normally don't drive my e60 m5 in the snow because I normally don't put snow tires on it. This year I decided to get some Michelin pilot alpins 255/40/19 & 285/35/19 mounted on Oem wheels with 12mm spacers all around.

I cannot believe how well a rear wheel drive sedan can perform with proper snows. I thought the rears might be too wide, but no problem. I drove to work via Granville street today with barely any slipping. I took the inside lane and the car simply piled through the snow with ease. I would say the m5 with snows provides just a little less traction than my 2012 a4 on all seasons.

Wow those rears are wide. I'm running 225/40/18 all around and my car does just fine in the snow with Blizzaks.

^ I am sure my car would drive better with skinnier tires, lol! but I cannot handle seeing the rear with such skinny tires. My summer set up is 305/25/20s on a 11inch rim.

Going off of your signature, you have an Audi A4 (daily)... That means either Quattro or FWD, yet you buy snowies and drive an M5 in the snow...?

He said he usually doesn't put snow tires on his BMW, but decided to this time. If he can afford to run both in the snow why not...?

Why not?
Perhaps he's not boring and didn't store his fun car as soon as the first rain hit in October, instead he bought snowies and had fun driving in Winter as well.

Yea and driving in my lemon beetle without the ability to turn off traction control was fun too.

I was limited to accelerating at 1000rpm before traction control cuts off my gas

I luv revscene, everyone questions your decisions. I put snowies on my m5 because I can. I find it quite funny when people store their everyday cars for the winter.

I tried taking my E60M5 out earlier today in the snow/slush just to run an errand down the street.

I ended up stuck about 15 steps from my garage. Took maybe 15-20 minutes to get it back inside.

I'm running 245/40/19 and 275/35/19 Blizzak LM-60s and have no issues so far. Got me through two snowstorms and an ice storm.

As soon as I get my car I'll start making some good automotive videos. Need a private parking lot/strip of road to do some proper videos though. :/

Those aren't the kind of videos we were hoping for

So wait, one of the most advanced traction control systems available, makes for.... good traction?

On a Timpo note: I was talking to a guy a couple winters ago who was driving his GTR with snow tires on it. He said, aside from the cost of tires, it was one of the best handling cars hes driven in the winter. The traction control on it is so good it was impossible to fuck up.

I can afford to run my M3 in the winter but why bother. It's not that the car isn't capable. I'd be more afraid of some idiot in a lifted brotaco on mud tires in -20 penetrating the tailpipes. If I lived in a warmer winter climate like the GVA, Van Island or interior I'd definitely drive it all year on winter tires.

Fuck Alberta.

Sophisticated AWD, Relentlessly impressive traction control, well balanced weight, low center of gravity. All this coupled with some Blizzak LM60's and you have the makings of an epic winter warrior.

Not to mention epic boot space, good comfort, and seats for 4* people.

*In reality you would have to be lacking legs to be able to seat yourself in the back seats, but it does still have them....
