Gold Chains

10k
20inch long
4mm thick

Bought this chain on impulse because it was 70% off from $400 (~135 after tax), and I wanted to see if it was a good find, if not I will return it.

I don't know too much about buying gold jewelry so I have a couple questions for the knowledgeable.

1. Was this a good deal?

2. I'd prefer the same chain but 14k gold instead, but how much should I be looking to pay?

Amazon.com: Duragold Men's 14k Yellow Gold Hollow Diamond-Cut Rope Chain Necklace (4.0mm), 20": Jewelry

amazon has this chain for ~$455USD but is 14k that much more valuable than 10k? (455-135= 320 dollar difference)

3. What are good websites and stores to buy gold direct, and for the best price?

I've compared prices on ebay, macys, kay's, jared's already but it's hard to find a good comparison.

Your help is much appreciated!

thing u didnt mention is how much it weighed, but from the price it should be pretty light. That price is acceptable $135, the store has to make little money. If you really like it thats good so you should keep it.

10k vs 14k not much difference, you cant really tell the colour difference, 10k is less malleable. Youll never buy gold for the best price lol especially when your a retailer, best place is craiglist

where did you buy the chain btw?

i haven't weighed it and they never told me.

I got it at sears, not the best place to get jewelry but they had 70% off all gold.

Price ranges as it depends on the Jade. Jade can be sold at any price they want. Finding a Buddha is hard, you can go Chinatown but most likely they will rip you off badly. You have to go to the gold smith to get it attached to a gold chain. You can make a custom backplate for the Buddha. Thats wat I did to mine.

It all depends what you want to get done. Personally I went to Arbutus Mall, I believe its called Arbutus Jewellers but the guy there should be an Asian dude with glasses. His name is Andy.

Most jewelers trade 10k gold at $30 per gram, so find out how much yours weighs and compare it to see if it is a good deal. They also factor in whether it is custom made or factory made. From the looks of that chain it should be factory made, although the color of that chain is quite bronze-ish, might just be the lighting. Real 10k gold still shines and has a nice yellow gold tone to it still.

I would say from the price you got a pretty darn good deal if it is actual 10k solid gold (since department stores usually wouldn't under-karat you), considering most rope chains should weigh atleast 20grams.

However, you might have accidentally bought one that was plated, which was why they could have sold it for such a discount.

Would the stores listed in here be the best places to get a gold chain? Or anyone have better recommendations?
